Auction Update

We would like to offer a huge THANK YOU to everyone who attended the auction, donated items and put in their free time to make this year's auction one to remember. The night was a HUGE success — We have thus far raised over $98,000. We can easily reach our $109,000 goal with your help.

There are online auction items that can still be bid upon until 11:45 p.m. on Friday, March 24. Check out the online auction catalog.

Donations to this year's fund-a-need program can be made here.

Thanks again,

Solvig and the auction team

Principal's Letter

Dear Thunderbird Families,

I hope you are enjoying this unusually warm weather this week. We have been having a great week here with recess outside due to no rain. I hope you and your family will get out this weekend and enjoy our beautiful Bay Area.

Auction was wonderful. A big thanks to Solvig and all you amazing volunteers! Thank you all for coming and supporting our school. We so appreciate your generosity. It was so great to see you all having fun.

For those of you that could not make it or have not had a chance to contribute, we will be giving you more opportunities to do so in the near future. Remember due to OUSD budget cuts we are more than ever relying on support anywhere we can find it.

THANKING YOU in advance.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Auction Karma

Thornhill had a fabulous auction this past Saturday thanks in part to 10 volunteers from neighboring schools who staffed the event! Now their auctions are up next. Could you help out for an evening at a friend's school? Your support for a neighboring school is also support for Thornhill. Thank you!

Please follow the Auction Karma link at SignUpGenius to find events at other local schools where you can help out.

Meet The Superintendent

Devin Dillon, Oakland Unified School District's interim superintendent, will be visiting Thornhill the morning of Monday, March 20. Ms. Dillon will be at the school to meet and greet parents from 8:15 to 8:35 a.m. Please come out and meet Ms. Dillion and let her see how great our parent involvement is at Thornhill,

Thornhill Night At The A's

The Thornhill Dads Club is preparing for one of the school's most-popular events, the annual Thornhill Night at the A's.

This year's night will take place on Friday, April 21, when the A's face the Seattle Mariners (the hometown and favorite team of your humble newsletter editor, Rex Crum). Thornhill Elementary School students, parents, and their friends and families can purchase discounted tickets in two different seating sections.

Tickets cost $32 for Field Level seats and $20 for the Plaza Outfield section. A portion of each ticket sold will go directly back to the school. Tickets have to be purchased through the above link in order for Thornhill to get its donation credit from the A's.

Dads Club is planning on holding a Thornhill tailgate, with a food truck, at the Coliseum prior to the game. Last year, more than 300 Thornhill parents and students attended the game, so we could we could use some help with tables and chairs for the pre-game tailgate. If you have something you can volunteer, please contact Robert Jacobs at rjacobs@robertjacobsassociates.com. Robert has generously taken the reins with organizing this year's event and deserves a beer or two bought for him at the game.

And...The A's have cut the price of beer at games this year, too. All the more reason to attend.

Pennies For Patients Fundraiser

It’s time for our annual Pennies for Patients penny drive to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Each classroom will have a donation box. Please bring in pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, half-dollars, dollar coins, and bills of all sizes… Last year, we donated over $1,000 – Let’s do it again!! We’ll run the donation drive through mid-May.

A few Pennies for Patients facts:

  • Thornhill is one of hundreds of schools across the nation participating in this donation program
  • Money raised will go towards cancer research, especially for children with leukemia and blood cancer

  • Leukemia is a blood disease. It affects our body’s production of healthy blood cells.

  • Approximately 17,692 children of all ages in the SF Bay Area are affected by different forms of blood cancer, including leukemia

  • We can help! Every cent counts! Only 7 cents a day can help a patient with his or her doctor visits

Thank You!

Yours truly,

Lola Harris, 4th Grade

Do your children act dramatic at home?

Do you ever think, "This kid should win an Oscar for this performance" as he or she pleads with you for a snack just before dinner?

Well, then get your aspiring Daniel Day-Lewis or Meryl Streep on stage.

Thornhill drama teacher Doug Cole will be offering four 2-week sessions of drama camp this summer at Montclair Elementary School. Sessions for students entering grades K-8.

These are full day camps with extended care from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Details at http://www.dougsdrama.com/

Returning To Thornhill? Turn In Your Intent Forms

Hello Everyone...

This is the first year that OUSD is requiring us in the Thornhill office to report your students intent to return to our school during the next school year.

The school needs to report this information from all TK - 4th grade parents. Follow this link and the form will automatically download.

Once you have filled out the form, either return it to Ms. Sherry in the office or via e-mail by Wednesday, March 22. This information is crucial for planning for next year. If your student is NOT returning it would be helpful to know what school they will be attending.

Thank you in advance for your assistance with this matter.

Thanks!
