What's Happening in the Classroom
Here's a little news from Mrs. Smith's room
Hello from the PK-3 Resource Room! We have been busy this year trying some new math curriculums. We are using the series called BRIDGES. The students seem to enjoy the learning games and activities. Kindergarten is working on addition and subtraction facts to 5. The first graders are working on place value and adding two digit numbers. Second graders are practicing addition and subtraction within 1,000. We are also learning regrouping. We celebrated some good growth in math skills after the winter school wide screener. Great job, kids!
Oral reading fluency is another area we are all working on, so when you see the reading bags coming home, your child is ready to read to you. Extra practice at home and school really helps your emerging reader. Thanks for your help!
Finally, I am preparing for ESYS. This is Extended School Year Services for eligible students. I will be meeting with students by appointment this summer. We will be working June 6th-10th and June 20th-24th.
What's been happening in Science with Mr. Andersen
Physical science: We are learning about magnetism. This includes how and why magnets work, polarity, and how this relates to electrons. We are examining how magnetism relates to solar flares and auroras. Next we will be taking a look at how magnetism relates to compasses and navigation.
Biology: We are examining how mitosis and cell replication works. We have been examining replication and the regulation of the cell replication process. Yesterday and today we have been investigating how cancer can develop when the cell replication process is unregulated.
Chemistry: We are starting to take a look at reactions and differentiating the various reaction types. Next week we plan on looking at where we see each of the major reaction types in everyday life.
A/P, Physics, and unified science students are independently working on their online courses.
