Guiding Behavior
Set Limits
- setting limits helps child set limits for himself
- show understanding, explain limits, acknowledge feelings, give options
- if limits are not consistent then children don't take parent seriously
Encourage Independence
- child says me do it for independence
- too big expectations will not be met
- self-feeding.. changing clothes.. washing up are ways for kids to be independent
-this increases confidence and independence
Promoting Sharing
- engage in children activities
- put them in situations to share
- limit materials available
- make clear what you are trying to teach
- praise good behavior
Deal with Aggressive Behavior
- child is upset and needs are not being met
-find the cause of the behavior and fix it
- find the cause and encourage more appropriate behavior
- result in time-out
