FCCA Weekly Updates
Fulton College and Career Academy
Principal's Notes
We have had another wonderful week at CCA. Students are signing up to participate in our FCCLA and SkillsUSA CTSO, they have been on some pretty amazing field trips and what I find most important has been their willingness to participate in our Suicide Prevention Month activities that promote suicide awareness. Our students have been sharing positive messages to encourage others who may be having a rough day and wearing bracelets with inspirational messages on them. We all know that positivity matters! During the month of October, we will be bringing awareness to the following:
- October is National Bullying Prevention Month(Wear Royal Blue on Mondays)
- Breast Cancer Awareness Month(Wear Pink on Fridays)
- October 23-31 is Red Ribbon Week (Wear Red all Week)
As we prepare for next week please be reminded of the following tips that will help your child be successful at CCA.
- Bring their device to CCA every day. Some of our curriculum is delivered via nationally certified online platforms. Students need their devices each day.
- CCA is an accelerated program. Your student should be completing work at home.
- Please check Infinite Campus to monitor missing assignments and work with your student to submit the work in a timely manner.
- Progress reports will be available at the beginning of October.
Here are some reminders about upcoming events.
- Interviews for Fulton Bootcamp took place at CCA on 9/26 and 9/27. 30 Culinary Arts students were selected to participate in an exclusive Culinary Arts experience. Twenty-four (24 of those students will be chosen to participate. Our WBL Coordinator, Tina Walcott, has been working with the students to help them prepare for their interview. Please check with your student to see if they were selected. If so, please make sure they come to CCA in professional dress and prepared for their interview.
- 10/7 Fall Rally – SkillsUSA field trip to Perry, GA. Please make sure your student has returned their Field Trip Permission form.
Happenings at FCCA
Teaching as a Profession Students Attend "Aspiring Educators of Tomorrow Retreat" at KSU
Students in the Teaching as a Profession Pathway along with instructor Ms. Alicia Darian, had an amazing experience at the Aspiring Educators of Tomorrow Retreat, held at Kennesaw State University on September 16, 2022. Students were given the opportunity to hear an aspiring keynote speaker (Chelsea Leming, one of the state finalist for Teacher of the Year), engage in a KSU Student Panel Q&A Session, and attend various breakout sessions based on personal interest (topics included: STEM, Technology, Infancy and Toddler Classroom Management and more!). This was an amazing experience that afforded student participants with a snippet of campus life and participation with professional development.
FCCA Work-based Learning Students Working it Out!
Work-Based Learning is a program that provides students with opportunities for instruction in both academic and occupational skills, career exploration, and guidance identifying employment and educational goals.
Malik Peters is a Certified Serv Safe FCCA Work-Based Learning Student who enjoys cooking and working alongside Chef Tamika Carr. His job placement is with Fat Sisters, LLC Meal Prep Company. He performs various job duties which include weighing and measuring ingredients, setting up and stocking food items, prepping food items by cutting, chopping, and mixing sauces. In addition, he also maintains cleanliness and complies with food sanitation requirements by properly handling food and ensuring correct storage.
College and Career Day at FCCA - October 13th & October 14th
We are excited about the return of Fulton Schools College & Career Academy's Post- Secondary Fair on October 13th and 14th, during the school day.
These campus fairs are held three times per year and span over the course of two days in order for all students to participant. These events allow all CCA students to interact with college representatives, industry professionals and military recruiters to learn more about the programs they offer and the post- secondary options that exist beyond high school.
We anticipate organizations such as Georgia State, Georgia Power, Year Up, Mechanical Trades Institute and the University of West Georgia to attend and share great information with our students. If you are affiliated with a college or professional organization that would like to participate in our January or March fairs, please contact our counselor, Lindsey Hutchins at hutchinsL3@fultonschools.org.
Student Expectations
Reminders.........
Student Expectations:
Dress Code expectations are that our students come to CCA prepared for opportunity to knock. That means our students are ready to collaborate with industry professionals on any given day. Please ensure your students are dressed appropriately. We expect all Academy students to model the tenants of PCCLI (Professionalism, Character, Collaboration, Leadership, Innovation) in their behavior and dress code.
Early Dismissal/Late Arrival:
- Students who arrive on campus after the start of the class must check in through the front office where they will be given a late pass to class.
- Any student who will be picked up from CCA prior to the end of the class must be checked out through the front office. A parent/guardian listed in Infinite Campus must come into the CCA and check their student out before the student will be released.
- Students should not request any type of rideshare (Uber/Lyft, etc.) to leave campus.
Transportation to and from CCA:
- To keep all students safe, it is imperative that our students enter the building as soon as they are dropped off.
- Students are not allowed to leave campus for any reason without being checked out in the front office by a parent/guardian. Any student who wishes to drive to the Academy must apply for a parking pass. Once approved, the student will be issued a parking pass that should be visible from the windshield of their car.
- If you and your student have not completed the parking pass application and you wish to have them drive to our campus, please download the parking pass form, complete it, and have your student return it to us. Students are NOT allowed to ride with other students.
- AM Wave start time is 9:00.
- PM Wave start time is 12:30.
- Students should be in class prior to the start time.
