#jdalReadsAloud
It is not too late for you to join in on #jdalReadsAloud! This quarter, our school-wide theme relates to (super)heroes, and we are asking the question What are the ways in which one can be a hero or a role model in one’s own community?
All past read alouds are available for you to listen to if you want to catch up and then join in on the fun. Adults too! Staff leading a Read Aloud have also created a google classroom to allow for discussion of our school-wide theme.
Overarching Idea: Young people need heroes. They need to find the heroes in their communities, their culture, and themselves. They need to be guided and inspired to recognize and value that small acts of daily heroism make profound differences.
Enduring Understandings:
Heroes face challenges in particular times and situations.
Heroes are defined by their deeds and choices.
Qualities considered heroic may change over time.
Cultural values can influence what is considered heroic.
Heroes help meet the needs of society.
Heroes make a difference in the lives of others.
A hero’s values and beliefs can influence others.
The potential to be a hero exists in everyone.

Benefits of Read-Aloud
'We read to children for all the same reasons we talk with children,' Trelease wrote. 'To reassure, to entertain, to bond, to inform or explain, to arouse curiosity, and to inspire.' "
