2019 Winter All-Ohio Recognition
To conclude the 2017-2018 basketball season both Jordyn and Travis were recognized as top underclassmen in the State of Ohio through the Boys’ Showcase all-star event. All districts in the state take applications and then the top players are selected for the state event. Jordyn was also selected after his freshman season. Congratulations to both Travis and Jordyn.
Sam was selected to play in the Blue-Gray All star classic in Dallas Texas this past December. Sam was selected from 1000’s of participants in the Blue-Gray combines held regionally across the United States. Sam is the 1st player from Hopewell-Loudon to play in this prestigious event. We would also like to recognize the entire 2018 Chieftain football team for earning All-Ohio Academic honors as a team. This year’s team was one of the top 75 schools in the State for team GPA this fall. Congratulations to Sam and the entire football team for their achievements.
The girls track team also had several athletes recognized for their success on and off of the track. Renae Kapelka, Corrin Hoover, and 2018 Graduate Emily Pace all were honored with the status of Academic All-Ohio in Track and Field. All three were members of the 4X800 meter relay team, along with Peyton Hoover, that qualified for the State meet last May. This was only the second Lady Chieftain relay team to compete at the highest level. Congratulations Renae, Corrin and Emily on your academic and athletic excellence.
2018 graduates Dominic Hedrick and Brendan Herbert earned Academic All-Ohio honors at the 2018 State Track and Field meet where they ran in the 4X200 meter relay, running the 10th best time in the preliminary heat. All-Academic honors are awarded to sophomores, juniors and seniors who participate in the State meet and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
This fall Jordan Foster, Sam Meade, Bryce Arbogast, and Trey Masterson also earned Academic All-Ohio honors at the 2018 State Cross Country meet where the team placed 17th in Division III.
Jordan Foster earned All-Ohio honors last fall at the State Cross Country meet by placing 16th out of 181 runners in Division III. All-Ohio honors are awarded to runners finishing in the top 30. Jordan also made it on the podium with his top 20 finish and will be honored with his picture being placed on the Hopewell-Loudon Wall of Fame. Congratulations to Jordan and all of our track and cross country runners who received honors.
Zach Kreais earned 1st team All-Ohio and Academic All-Ohio honors in baseball last spring. He ended the season with a .500 batting average, 9 doubles, and led the league with 4 triples, 35 runs scored and 7 wins on the mound. Statistics like this are the reason Zach was voted the best Division 4 first baseman in the State by his rival coaches. Zach is only the 4th Chieftain baseball player to be named First Team All-Ohio. He is currently attending The University of Toledo and majoring in Physics. Welcome to the Wall of Fame Zach!
Chieftains for Change Event
On February 5, 2019, we were fortunate enough to have Captain Scott Frank on campus to share his Digital Empowerment Program. Captain Frank has had years of experience working in the digital world and protecting our youth against predators on the internet. The district was able to have Captain Frank on campus for the entire day where he presented to our 5-12 grade students about the dangers of the digital world and how they can have a positive impact within that world. He also took time to meet with individual students during lunch and then presented to our community in the evening from 6-8 PM. This was a powerful presentation that started students talking about taking responsibility for their digital interactions, and how to protect themselves in this new world. Captain Frank also share with our parents the dangers of the “Dark Web”, how it is accessed, and apps that parents should be aware of and their dangers. I would like to thank all who worked hard to organize this event, and especially Jen Arbogast, Anne Arnold, and Angie Bloom for all the time they invested in keeping this annual community event going for a third year!

Choose Happy Scholarship Fund
What a special night at HL in February 7th! The Chieftain girls’ basketball team, students, staff, and friends came together with North Baltimore as we celebrated the birthday of Kenadee Siebenaller by saying “Choose Happy”! Yellow flowers were sold the past couple weeks in hopes of stringing them across the gym - we went around the gym and raised over $700 for the scholarship fund. Thank you to all who made this happen! #FlyHighKen
