Copeland Hoofbeat
May 24, 2018
From the Principal
Thank you all for a wonderful school year! We are excited about the last few activities we have ahead of us here at Copeland.
On Friday, May 25th, our 3rd and 4th grade students are fortunate to have one of the Harlem Globetrotters present an anti-bullying presentation. This is a student only event. Our students have also been earning lead loot to buy raffle tickets for our end of year raffle! We have lots of great prizes. Hopefully your child will be lucky enough to bring home a prize on Friday, May 25th. Memorial Day is Monday, May 28th. This is a staff and student holiday. Enjoy a nice long weekend!
On Tuesday, May 29th, Copeland will be welcoming Langham Creek Seniors at 9:00 am for our first Senior Walk. Seniors will parade through the halls of Copeland one last time and will then assemble on the hardtop near the playground for pictures. We are so excited to have these former Colts back with us! That evening at 6:00, we will have our 5th Grade Recognition Ceremony at Langham Creek High School. Please know that seating is limited. Thanks for your understanding.
On Wednesday, May 30th, students will receive yearbooks if they purchased them and will be getting signatures during their large group time. Students who did not purchase a yearbook will receive signature pages to use during this time. We do have a limited number of yearbooks available for purchase for $40. They will be available at the Front Desk beginning on Wednesday, May 30th on a first come first serve basis. Some of our Copeland students are excited to perform for their peers at a Talent Show on Thursday, May 31st, and that afternoon, our 5th graders will enjoy their 5th grade fun day. Lunch will be served to 5th graders at 11:00, and the fun day activities will be from 11:30 – 1:30. Parents of 5th grade students are welcome to attend.
Please see the EOY party schedule in this edition of the Hoofbeat. Remember to send in an RSVP for all adults attending so that you do not miss the party standing in line to check in. If you have several children here at Copeland, please wait to check all students out at the same time when you are ready to leave as we do not have room in our classrooms for siblings to attend one another’s parties. We are excited to celebrate with our Colts.
Our CFISD secondary campuses have advised students that they will not be allowed to visit elementary campuses during these last two weeks of school. This is a district policy, and we are not able to make exceptions. Thanks so much for your cooperation and understanding.
I am so grateful for your awesome support of our wonderful school. I hope you all have a safe and happy summer, and I can’t wait to have all of our students back here with us! We will be sending out a letter to all students in August with their class assignments for the upcoming school year.

Art supplies needed!
Dear parents,
I am collecting baby food jars to store individual paints for students. If anyone can save washed baby food jars over the summer or anytime next fall and turn them into the art room, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm also collecting yarn and buttons.

From the Nurse
Dear Parents,
As we are nearing the end of the school year please make arrangements to retrieve your student's medication from the clinic any time by 3:30pm on Friday, June 1st, 2018. Please call the clinic if you need to make other arrangements. Any medication left in the clinic after that time will be discarded!
The District's policy on transportation of medication states: ALL MEDICATION shall be brought to the clinic by the parent or guardian or by another responsible adult and shall be secured there at all times. This includes over the counter medications and cough drops. When the period for administering the medication has expired, the parent, guardian or another responsible adult shall retrieve the medication from the clinic. I appreciate your assistance with this matter.
Sincerely,
Chris Cheves RN, BSN
