Hanmer Springs town is built around a hot spring, that was discovered in the late 19th century.

Attractions/Features of township/must see/must do

Hanmer Springs has alot of must see/must do attractions. The main one that alot of poeple go to Hanmer Springs to do, is to go to the hot pools.

This is where children are entertained on the water slide/super bowl. And the adults can relax in themselves with a massage.

At Hanmer Springs you can go Bungy jumping, mountian biking, bush walking, mini golf, golf, 2 ski fields to chose from, Solve the maze or just some quiet shopping. This si just some of things you can do here. There is a good sellection of restaurants and cafes to chose from.

There is plenty of accomodation, with a youyth hastel, to holiday homes, to luxury hotel/motels.


Hanmer Springs is half way between Kaikoura and Christchurch, then travel inland. The town used to have the Queen Mary Hospital, but was closed in 2003. It was place where people with drug addications could go to get better. The building is still there. The department of Conservation now own it. The town also has its own airline service, and a daily shuttle bus.

To get to Hanmer Springs, you pass some popular vineyards. The Mud House at Waipara, and Marble Point, not far from Hanmer Springs turn off.
