Campus Race to Zero Waste continues in WEEK 2!
What can YOU do to reduce your waste?
Join us in our efforts at Knox to REDUCE our waste, RECYCLE more, REPURPOSE materials, RECOVER food, COMPOST food scraps, DIVERT waste from the landfill and Reduce our carbon footprint.
Continue to observe your daily patterns around waste, consumption, and sourcing. Be sure you know what can and cannot be recycled here at Knox. Check out the these resources https://www.knox.edu/Documents/Sustainability/WhatcanIRecycleatKnox.pdf. Remember that we CAN recycle #1-#5 and #7 in our conventional recycling. We CANNOT Recycle #6, styrofoam , solo cups, compostables.
Our individual choices and behaviors matter and we can make a difference in reducing contamination in the various waste streams. Let's all do our part!
What is ZERO Waste?
The Zero Waste International Alliance defines Zero Waste as "The conservation of all resources by means of responsible production, consumption, reuse, and recovery of products, packaging, and materials without burning and with no discharges to land, water, or air that threaten the environment or human health."
Note: This definition was updated in December of 2018.
