Weekly update for the Meadows Elementary School community

Week Six of Distance Learning 9/21-9/25

Good Evening Meadows Families,

Last week was a tough week for everyone- students, families, teachers and administrators! I want to thank each of you for hanging in there and being supportive of one another.

Over the course of the last few days, our district IT team with experts have been working long hours to address the ransomware issue. While our district has provided asynchronous instructional lessons, we know that we want to get back to the Google Classroom and live instruction as quickly and safely as possible. There will be two more days of asynchronous instruction, Monday and Tuesday of this week and no google classroom on Monday and Tuesday. Click here for the lesson for Monday, 9/21. The return to google classroom will be assessed on Monday and Tuesday of this week. There have been many safety precautions that the district has had to take to ensure this could happen. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

As a reminder, on September 24th and 25th, we will have outdoor picture day and a distribution of important math materials and other items. The picture times were sent out this last week in an email and your alphabetically assigned time is posted on social media. Please arrive during your assigned time. The pictures will take no less than ten minutes. Plan to wait in your vehicle in the valet line. Staff and/or parent volunteers will escort students over to the outdoor picture area then escort them back to your vehicle with their materials. We will have plenty of staff and we are looking for more parent volunteers to assist. See the graphic below to contact PTSA President to become a parent volunteer, Mrs. Hamblin.

Please also remember to bring your district issued laptop (charged and powered on) so we can install additional security software into the device. This will be an additional layer of safety. If we cannot complete the installation on picture day, we will arrange for an appointment time for you at a later date. Thank you for your patience.

We look forward to resuming our normal programming later this week and reconnecting with our students! Please reach out with any questions by contacting our main office Mon-Fri from 7:30am-4:00pm at 661-291-4050. I can now be reached via email as well.

Thank you,

Dr. Juliet Fine

Acts of Kindness Start in Our Own Community

Our wonderful PTSA Executive Board willingly signed up to volunteer this year. We held many conversations about how we could bring our community together during this time of distance learning and Covid-19 restrictions. Our new PTSA President, Mrs. Hamblin embraced the challenges ahead and recruited Mrs. Smith. And, with optimism and hope, they said that we can bring people together by finding a way to give back to our own community and local businesses. In normal years, we partner with businesses and they generously give to our school. This year, with open hearts and generosity, we are asking for nothing in return from our local businesses, but we want to show them our appreciation. We want to give back to them in numbers. This semester, we will support different businesses by having a "Meadows" day to show them we care. This is the power of kindness. When our community needs us, we give to them with altruism. We also become role models to our children when we demonstrate this for them. Thank you to our PTSA for inspiring generosity in our own community. We will focus on "The Habit" this month and on 9/30, following social distancing guidelines, order online, order take out or wait in line (6ft apart) to order your meal from the Habit located in Granary Square. Use hashtag #meadows_cares, post your pictures on Facebook comments and DM them to us on IG.
