Learning Lab Exploration
The TerraNichol Animal Rescue was a busy place. Many of our animals were placed into forever homes including 2 sheep, a hamster and many dogs and cats. Potential adopters were required to spend time with the animals walking them around the bike path, reading to them, relaxing in the hammocks, and taking them for a veterinarian check. Then an adoption form was required to be sure that each animal was going to a loving home. Students began to understand the process of adoption and the responsibility of having a pet.
Miss Terra and Miss Michelle have observed the need for introducing many fine motor activities. Hand, finger and wrist strength is important for future skills including writing and we see many students needing further development in this area. Incorporating a variety of sensory materials for snipping, pouring, sifting, scooping, rolling, stamping and pressing as well as activities for lacing, stringing, cutting, beading, and using tools such as tweezers and hole punchers were incorporated to progress small muscle strength. Please keep this in mind when choosing activities at home.
While literacy is always a strong focal point for the teaching team many students are beginning to demonstrate a greater interest. From asking to find letters in their name at the water table, to trying to spell new words. Many students have taken on the challenge of stamping words into play dough and forming play dough snakes to replicate letters!
The Wild Rumpus is being discussed often amongst students as they read the tale Where The Wild Things Are! Budding actors have been acting out scenes using puppets and costumes while roaring their terrible roars and showing their terrible claws and gnashing their terrible teeth! All students created a unique crown to where to the Wild Rumpus if they choose. The crowns look very royal and glittery!
The Culinary Kitchen was busy with little chefs preparing and baking treats for the four legged friends at Satchel's Pet Resort. Scooping, pouring, cracking, rolling, baking created big smiles as students were intoxicated by the smells of banana, peanut butter and pumpkin. The students really wanted to eat the treats themselves! We incorporated math skills like measuring, servings, more or less as well as science concepts as we observed the changes made as we added each ingredient. Students learned the importance of following a recipe accurately as well as the directions. We are excited to deliver these treats at the end of the month when we drop of the other supplies collected through the 4 the Love of Pets drive.
We were excited to have Studio Bee here offering us our first Extended Art Enrichment Program. Students began the coverings for the what will soon be batik pillows! There choice of colors were really vivid and interesting. We are eager to see the finished project!
Students have been working hard to take care of all of our new plants in the garden boxes, as well as around the playscape. We have basil, dill, tomatoes, 3 varieties of lettuce, carrots, radishes, zucchini, rosemary, onion all on the way as we are careful to water each day. Our committed gardeners have been adamant about checking for signs of caterpillars on our leaves! So far we have been lucky enough to only spot a few! We also received a delivery at the beginning of the week of some fruit trees. Now we will have avocado, lemon, lime, blueberry, blackberry and starfruit! We will work on getting these new additions potted or put into the ground next week!
Next week we look forward to going on a safari in music workshop! Jambo! and International Artist projects!

WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE PARADE
Calling all Wild Things for our Annual Wild Things RUMPUS!!
Inside all of us is hope, fear, adventure. Inside all of us is a Wild Thing.
Again this is optional and only applies to students who attend the program on Wednesday.
This is an annual tradition for our school and the students love creating homemade costumes, crowns, and wands. Keep in mind when costume designing that it most likely will be warm. All articles of the costume must be labeled with your child's name.
Tips for making DIY Wild Things costumes:
Costumes should be safe and free of any type of mask.
Cool for the weather. White t-shirt and white shorts are affordable and cool. Upcycle an old white pair of shorts, skirt, old pajama's, or t-shirt.
Use fabric markers to decorate costume.
Browse Pinterest for DIY Wild Things Costumes.
Keep age appropriate and simple.
Make it a family project on the weekend.
Let's make mischief of one kind or another. Let the wild rumpus begin!!
Usborne Book Fair!!!!
Thank you Stickley Family for the Soil Donation to go towards completing our garden! Thank you to everyone who signed up for items on our monthly learning lab Wish List!
Calling on our Tribe!
Volunteers and Donations:
We would love a volunteer to paint our wooden tables that were upcycled from electrical wire. Volunteer would paint with an outdoor paint that includes primer, lime green and aqua) as well as apply a clear coat!
Our adorable garden houses are in need of some repair. We would like to replace some parts with more sustainable materials. When designed and built by the company it seems that the wood was not sustainable enough for Florida weather especially the moisture. If you could help us with the repairs we are need of assistance as soon as possible. Also if you have ideas of what materials would be cost effective and also will hold up please reach out. The porch areas and the molding are the areas that need repair first. See photo below.
See photos of fun take home projects that we would love to add to our environment!
