School Site Based Decision Making Council Nominees:
Here are the candidates and their biography of themselves. Please take time to read these and come to school tomorrow to vote.
The election will be held on Tuesday, May 8th at MLCHS, from 8am to 10am (front office) and again from 2pm-4pm (front office).
If you have any questions, please contact the school at 647-1160.
Tim Andersen:
My wife, Susan, and I have 3 grand-daughters that we have guardianship of; they are Makayla Salvadori, currently in 9th grade at MLCHS, Kyli Lawes, who is in 8th grade and goes to MLCHS, and Kamryn Lawes who attends West Middle, but will soon be going to MLCHS. As a grand-parent, and guardian, I believe I can bring a different perspective that would add diversity to the decision making counsel.
I am employed at Summit Media Corp in Louisville , doing broadcast and digital sales, and have been there for over 7 years. I am on the Associates Committee and Shelby County Committee at the Builder’s Industry Association of Greater Louisville. I also serve on the State Board for CEF, (Child Evangelism Fellowship). I look for common sense solutions, and am considered an energetic participant on the committees and boards I currently serve on and on others I have served on in the past. We love Shelbyville and one of the big reasons we moved to Shelbyville from Louisville is the great schools we have here, and I desire to protect them and support them for my grand-daughters and others that follow.
Rich Baltzell:
Amanda Gehring:
I am very interested in serving on the SBDM Council. When Ian and Sydney attended Southside, I served on PTO for several years. We focused on enriching student academic experiences and family involvement. I feel that experience, combined with my professional experience, would make me a valuable member of the SBDM Council. I would greatly appreciate your support, and the opportunity to serve MLCHS.
Sonny Malone:
My passion is all things kids and feel blessed that both of my children, Victor (class of 2019) and Mary (class of 2020) are able to attend Collins High School. My motivation to be on the Parent Council goes well beyond the experiences that my kids will have the next two years, as I am advocate for all kids, whenever I can serve to be so. I have coached youth football in the county for 11 of the past 12 years and have a passion for every kid’s success.
I have represented Collins High School as a volunteer Public Announcer for Titan Football since the school’s first season, and often attend most Titan events beyond football; as my son and daughter are active participants in Drama, Choir and Dance Team, respectively. Professionally, I am the VP of Business Development for Monty’s Plant Food Company in Louisville and have had that title for 12 of my 18 years of employment there.
A brief list of character references, if asked for… would include:
* Danny and Julie Eades
* Mike Cresap
* Frank Page
* Coach Mike Hammond
* Coach Jerry Lucas
I hope I have the honor or serving the MLCHS staff and the students and parents of MLCHS, as a member of the Parent Council.
Sincerely,
Sonny Malone
Carrie Vail:
Hello, my name is Carrie Vail. My oldest daughter Carly Vail is upcoming 9th grader at Martha Layne Collins; I also have upcoming twin 6th graders at West Middle School and a toddler at home. I have been both a speaker at youth events and a member of the board of directors for a city-wide Middle School and High School program in Georgia, based on students offering each other positive peer pressure in the schools (support in issues of drugs, bullying, friendships/dating, stress, violence, etc). Locally, I have been a youth Sunday School teacher and currently serve with our youth leadership team. Teenagers today face more complex and overwhelming issues than possibly ever before; because of this, they also need a strong network of support and guidance.
For the past two years, I have been blessed to be a part of the SBDM council at WMS and have learned so much. As parents we all have concerns about what our students are being approached with, taught, evaluated and how situations are being handled inside/outside of the classroom. I would be proud to serve on Collin’s SBDM, next year, to be your voice on the council and in return stay educated to answer your questions, as I am able, outside of those meetings. I value this position as a means, to help support our students, teachers, parents and faculty in having the most learning conducive environment possible with the best tools and support that we can provide.
The mission of Martha Layne Collins High School is to graduate every student college and/or career ready through positive collaboration, systems of support, and a commitment to excellence for all.
