The Quartering Act

June 2, 1765

The Purpose

The Quartering Act required the colonists to provide housing, barracks and supplies to the British troopers. This included food, quarters, and transportation.

Colonist Feelings About The Act

The British forced the colonist to accept it because they were protecting the colonist from the French. But, the colonist didn't consider the french a threat and they didn't agree with the idea of paying for British protection. The colonist felt really angry due to this law, they didn't like the fact that they had to give strangers food, and a home in their property.
