Family Newsletter
10/31/21
Thank you everyone for your help and support with our event on Friday. Our students had such a fun day with each other! It was great to see kiddos playing games, having treats, and complimenting each other's costumes.
Special thank you to our PTO for providing a safe event that all kids could attend. It is so important that the events we have are inclusive and accessible to all students. We are grateful for all the volunteers, donations, and planning that went into making this day possible. Thank you to PTO for all your help and support. We had about 50 parents offer to be parent helpers and over $500 of donations for the treat bags for students. We are grateful for the many contributions toward this event!
Thank you to our classroom teachers for all you did to make today and everyday fun and exciting as well!
If your family is going to trick or treat tonight- please be safe and have fun.
Please reach out at any time to share any questions, concerns, or ideas. I am here to help and support you and your family. Thanks for all you do to help keep our students and staff safe.

Family Survey- Please Complete
As shared in the KSD eSpotlight sent on Thursday, we are currently surveying our families in order to gain insight into your perception of our school and district effectiveness.
You may complete the survey online using a computer, tablet, or smartphone.
To fill out the survey, visit: kirkwoodschools.org/survey
If you have students in more than one building, please fill out a survey for each building. Please complete by Monday, November 8.
Student Survey Reminder
As a reminder, we will be asking for your child (grades 3-5) to reflect on their own mindsets and approaches to learning via an online survey they will be completing at school.
Our students' responses will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt our district to their needs. Please notify the school/grade-level office if you would like your child to opt out of taking the surveys by Oct 25. You may see aa copy of the survey linked below.

Vaccine Interest Survey
Based on survey feedback, we will work with the Urban League to plan and schedule a mass vaccination event for our school community.
Please complete this survey by Saturday, Nov. 6.
KSD is committed to being considerate of students’ and staff members’ privacy related to their individual decisions about getting the vaccine. The Missouri School Immunization Requirements for students do not include the COVID vaccination.
We continue to encourage all staff and eligible students to talk to their healthcare provider about getting vaccinated. The CDC advises that vaccination is currently the leading public health prevention strategy to end the COVID-19 pandemic. Adults and children ages 12 years or older can visit MOStopsCovid.com to find a nearby provider and schedule an appointment or locate a walk-in clinic.
KEES- November 10- A Conversation about Critical Race Theory (CRT) – What is it anyway?
Many may have heard the term “CRT,” but don’t have a concept of what it is or
what it means. To provide information on this theory and clarify how the concept
is discussed in higher education, the panel will include Professor Kenya
Brumfield-Young, a part of the Criminology/Criminal Justice program at St. Louis
University’s School of Social Work. In this journey to connectedness through
conversation, there will also be discussion of how Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
work in K-12 education differs from “CRT”.

Chili Bowl Volunteers Needed
One of Kirkwood's most beloved traditions is back on Thanksgiving Eve, Wednesday, November 24, and we need many hands to make Chili Bowl 2021 a success. This is a districtwide event run by the Kirkwood School District Foundation and we need volunteers from all Kirkwood schools. Help out, meet new people and have fun!
Shift 1 (4:45-6:15 pm)
Shift 2 (6:00 - 7:30 pm)
Shift 3 Cleanup (7:15 pm)
Please note: Since this is a fundraiser, volunteers who want to eat at the event must purchase a ticket. All Chili Bowl tickets will be purchased online for a specific time of entry. After ticket sales are announced, please choose your entry time so that it doesn't conflict with your volunteer shift. Thank you!
