Perseverance
"Perseverance is an important trait for students. Perseverance is the ability to work through challenges and struggles without giving up.
According to the Talking with Trees site:
"Perseverance is the ability and self control that pushes you to work through challenges. Having perseverance means that when you are facing a challenge, you use your mind and your body to overcome it. Perseverance means you are able to wait and work through difficulties, whether they have to do with your mind, your body, or your emotions. It’s important to point out that the definition of perseverance is not “don’t give up no matter what” or “never quit”. Sometimes you’ll do your best but it will still be time to move on to a different goal. However, perseverance is the ability to do your best toward a goal, even though it’s a big challenge.
At Glenwood, students are encouraged to take on challenges, make mistakes and try, try again. Teachers and administrators believe that giving our students the stamina to work through a challenge is one of the greatest gifts we can give them. This is a learned skill, but research shows time and time again that positive self esteem is developed through successes and failures.
"A person who never made a mistake, never tried something new." Albert Einstein

Notes from Mrs. Lawton, School Nurse
Health Update 10/20/2017:
- I hope you are all enjoying this great fall weather lately. With the Winter season around the corner and the need to wear hats, I wanted to remind Parents and Guardians to remind their children that they should not be sharing hats/visors with other children, and also they should not be sharing hair implements. You should be checking your child’s hair on a continuous basis. If you discover head lice in your child's hair, do not send them to school. You should notify the health office and you will need to notify your MD and they will need to be properly treated before coming back to school. When they do return to school, they need to be checked here in the health office before they return to class.
- Thank you to all those that have sent in recent copies of their children’s MD physicals and updated immunizations- I appreciate it. For those of you who haven’t been able to yet- if you could send them along as soon as possible, that would be great!
- When we receive a note from a doctor letting us know a child can not participate in gym class, we have to follow the doctor's orders. Therefore, a students cannot return to gym without updated orders that clear them for participation. Please make sure there is a start and end date, if possible, on doctor's orders.
- Flu season is coming. Certain everyday preventive actions – like covering your cough and frequent hand washing – can help keep germs from spreading.
Protect yourself and your family by routinely taking these actions:
- Keep yourself and children away from people who are sick as much as you can.
- If you get the flu or flu symptoms, avoid contact with other people, so that you don’t make them sick.
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze—throw the tissue away after you use it.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. If you are not near water, use an alcohol-based hand cleaner.
- Try not to touch your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs often spread this way.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces, especially when someone is ill.

- If your child has a change in dismissal, please send in a note with your child's full name and teacher's name.
- Please ensure your CORI has not expired. Contact Mrs. O’Coin if you are unsure of your expiration date. Mrs. O’Coin has current information regarding the CORI. We cannot rush CORI checks at the end of the year as systems are overloaded.
