Sanitizing Needs

We could use your help in collecting hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes, or any spray disinfectant. When the original crisis hit our community Edmond Public Schools collaborated in donating our supplies to local medical facilities in need. We were so glad that we were able to support and give back to our community. With the new school year just around the corner, we will need a supply of sanitizing materials. If you could assist us in restarting and building our supply of disinfecting materials it would be greatly appreciated. Our lobby is open each day, except on Fridays, please leave your donations in the designated bucket. Thank you in advance!

From the Principal

Hi, Cheyenne Families!

Many school year changes have been announced recently. There is a lot of updated information included in this newsletter. I encourage you to take some time to read the details carefully.

In addition to our newsletter, we encourage you to read through the district's back to school guidelines carefully. You can locate them here. Additional Information regarding the new start of school and AB learning plan can be found here.

As always, we will stay in touch and update you on events and details as we get closer. Thank you for being supportive and patient during these unpredictable times. We hope you are all enjoying your summer and that your families are safe and well!

We are Cheyenne! We are Mustangs!

Miss you!

Michelle Grinsteiner

Cheyenne Return to School Plans

  • Blended A/B Schedule - Thank you to all those that have reached out to us asking questions about the blended A/B schedule. Please know that Infinite Campus auto generates the A and B groups for all 25,000 Edmond students at one time. The only parameter it protects are households, keeping siblings in the same group, no matter their age. Making any changes after the auto sort happens would affect the entire roster and will therefore not be possible.
  • New School Start Date and Time: School starts August 20th. The first class of the day will begin at 7:40 AM with the final bell ringing at 2:15 PM. The building will open at 7:10am for all students and staff.
  • Masks: Masks are required for all students and staff at Cheyenne. Families are encouraged to find the masks that best fit and are comfortable for their student. It is advised that your student start practicing wearing the mask now while at home, before school starts - we are practicing in my own home with my 7th grader and 10th grader!

  • Lockers: Lockers will not be utilized at Cheyenne for this school year. While we know lockers are an enjoyable aspect for middle schoolers, it also brings a great deal of stress for many students and we are trying to eliminate as many stressors as possible. Additionally, by eliminating the use of lockers, we will minimize the crowding and gathering that often occurs in our hallways in order to ensure students are safely moving on to their next class.

  • Backpacks: Without lockers, backpacks will be allowed in the classroom this year. However, if your child uses the trapper keeper style binder (the larger binder that zips), backpacks will not be necessary - all necessary supplies can be carried in this large binder. Chromebook cases are also equipped with a handle for easy carrying. Female students may also carry a small purse with personal items. Students are encouraged to only bring the essential items to school with them on a daily basis, which includes their binder with minimal supplies in a pencil pouch (pens, pencils, highlighters, glue stick, scissors, calculator and earbuds), paper inside the binder, and Chromebook, as well as a water bottle. For a complete supply list, please click HERE.

  • Sanitizer Stations: We have purchased wall-mounted motion-sensored hand sanitizers for our cafeteria area to aid in the sanitizing of middle school hands before and after lunch. Additionally, we are ensuring that every classroom is equipped with a large bottle of hand sanitizer to start the year, as well as a disinfectant to clean desks between classes. Thank you to everyone who has donated to the cause!

  • Specific Guidelines, Practices and Protocols of the school day are being developed. We will have visual reminders regarding face coverings, hand-washing, safe distance examples, and directional signs. At this time we are preparing classrooms by removing excess furniture to allow social distancing during instructional time. The lunchroom procedures will provide distanced seating for safe removal of face coverings to eat. Students will still have a short recess either before or after their scheduled lunch time. We encourage you to purchase a refillable water bottle and put your child's name or a special sticker on it to individualize it. Students will be able to have a refillable water bottle in their bag.
See below for lunch pay plan, lunch applications, and transportation details.

Big picture

Mustang Round-Up Option

Unfortunately, we will not be hosting a Mustang Round-Up this year for our new incoming students. Sixth graders, plus any new seventh or eighth graders and their families who have met the August 13th deadline for submission of documentation, will be invited to come to the school on a Saturday, August 15 between the hours of 8am - 4pm to walk their schedule and see the school. Details with a sign-up form will be sent when your schedule is released to you digitally.

If you are unable to attend on August 15, we will have one other opportunity for new students and families to walk their schedules on August 18, 4pm - 7pm. ( We will adjust these dates as needed if there is a complication with the release of schedules.)
