December 1, 2022

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Here we are on the first day of December! During this month, the Doyon community will be focusing on acceptance and celebrations. In visiting classrooms this week, I was able to hear students speak about the World Cup and U.S.A.'s recent win! It is important to connect to significant events in our world, and throughout this month, we hope to cultivate discussion and awareness about all kinds of celebrations. Part of our school mission statement is to create a community of "compassionate citizens of the world" and we see evidence of this on a daily basis.
In fourth grade, students participated in literature groups and a Project Based Learning activity. They connected their understanding of their text to a real life creation, using collaborative project skills. Students also had the opportunity to work across classes. Check out those materials, texts, and excited smiles of Doyon fourth graders' learning in action!
Kindergarten families, a reminder that there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, December 5th because of Kindergarten conferences. This is for Kindergarten students ONLY.
Fifth grade families, please see the message below about the fifth grade committee. Thank you for your participation.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Mrs. O'Brien
Scholastic Book Fair is Here!
Next week we will be welcoming back the Scholastic Book Fair to Doyon! There will be a variety of books for all grade levels, ranging from $6 and up. Students can pay for their books using cash, check (made payable to Doyon FRIES), or through eWallet ( a paperless payment option). To use eWallet, create an account by clicking on the button below and add funds for your child to spend at the fair. After the fair, the remaining eWallet funds are not returned to a credit card but instead become a gift card balance that can be used online with Scholastic.
If your child is absent during the week of the fair and would still like to participate, they can shop the online fair by clicking on the button below. Please refer to the schedule to see what day your child will be visiting the fair. The fair will be open to families after school on Thursday, December 8th, from 2-3.

Fifth Grade Committee...
Thank you to those parents that attended our recent FRIES meeting and fifth grade gathering. We briefly went over the exciting role that the fifth grade committee will have this year, similar to past years. Fifth grade students will enjoy several special activities to make their last year at Doyon special.Thank you to those parents that filled out the survey below. We are looking for a committee lead, as well as participants. If you are a fifth grade parent, please take a quick moment to fill out this survey. Once we have enough volunteers and committee leaders, we can get the ball rolling! Thank you!
