FJVD Weekly Info

We Live the Word!

From the Principal's Desk

Dear Father Doyle Families,

Looking forward to seeing many of you at our Annual FJVD Car Show tomorrow! A reminder that the event kicks off at 9am and runs until 2pm. Stop by to enjoy some incredible cars, great music, food, games, and more! And don't forget to visit the Book Sale as well, with books for all ages, abilities, and interests!

As we continue with the implementation of our new student formation policies this week and in the coming weeks, I have been thinking often of our calling to form both saints and scholars within our school community. To that end, I was particularly struck by the words from the reading at Prayer Service this morning:

"Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you," St. Paul advises, "as beloved children, walk in love, as Christ loved us..."

It is a beautiful reminder of the ideals our school community is built upon, and those to which we call our students, staff and families alike. Looking ahead to next week, I pray that we all may heed St. Paul's words, treating one another with kindness and walking as beloved children of God.

Dress Code for the 2023-2024 School Year

Beginning with the start of the pandemic and continuing through last school year, the school intentionally took a more lenient approach to the dress code as families had difficulty acquiring appropriate uniform clothing due to supply chain issues and other factors.

As we continue to reform our student formation and discipline policies, and with the height of the pandemic thankfully behind us, the school community is working to adhere closely to the K-8 uniform policies as written in the year ahead. We will be using the first two weeks of school (through Friday, September 15th) to review and address uniforms concerns and ensure appropriate time to acquire necessary uniform components. With this in mind, please note the following:

Shoes & Socks

Solid black shoes must be worn with all uniforms except the gym uniform. While some small white markings (i.e. thin white sole, small white Nike logo, etc.) are permissible, in order to maintain consistency, shoes and laces should be as close to all black as possible.

In addition, girls should wear solid Red, White, Gray, or Black knee socks/tights with the jumper or skirt. Solid black or white socks, when worn, must cover the ankle.

Mass Day Attire

A particular emphasis is placed on maintaining a neat and clean uniform on days in which the school and/or specific students/classes attend Mass. With this in mind, students are not permitted to wear our hooded sweatshirt spirit wear to Mass. Essential gear and uniform tops that are quarter zip tops and/or sweaters are permitted.

Hairstyles and Other Items

Extremes of hairstyle or nail color (for example, but not limited to: bangs covering the eyes, hair past shirt collar for boys, excessive and/or unkempt facial hair, unnatural hair colors, carving of graphics, two sharply different colors at once, spikes, mohawks, etc.) are also considered not in compliance with the uniform.

Please reach out with any questions or concerns.

Extended Day Information

We're excited for another great year of Extended Day Care! Please find the welcome letter below from our coordinator, Ms. Ciera. There are lots of fun activities and themes prepared for the upcoming months!

As a reminder, the Extended Day Policies and Procedures can be found here. When picking up for extended day, please call the extended day line at 401-262-0271. An extended day staff person will direct you to the appropriate pick-up location either the west wing/middle school entrance (to the left of the main entrance) or an outdoor play space.

If you are planning to utilize Extended Day regularly during the course of the 23-24 school year, please complete the survey here.

Lastly, please be sure to notify your child's classroom/homeroom teacher if their dismissal plans change from their regular routine. Thank you!
