Gather your clan, make a fire plan!
By: McKinsey Safstrom
There are many things that can cause a fire. Sometimes they are caused because many people are careless and have accidents. It can be electrical wiring that can cause a short in the wall or heating. Kitchen fires can also happen because things being cooked are unattended. Other causes are the flaming of food or other cooking materials and clothing. It is a fact that Thanksgiving is the peak day for home cooking fires!
There are many ways to prevent fires from happening. You should always wear close-fitting clothes and keep equipment clean and free of grease since grease buildup is very flammable. Also, be sure to wait until appliances cool before cleaning them, watch food carefully while they cook on the range, and turn pot and pan handles towards the center of the range so you can keep someone from bumping a hot pan off the range. Be sure to keep a fire extinguisher nearby and know how to use it!
