This is a full day for certified staff. Teachers are expected to have a presence at the parade. High school teachers will be return to the high school and supervise the pep rally at the football stadium. Elementary teachers and middle school teachers are encouraged to join their colleagues to provide supervision at the pep rally. Otherwise, the expectation is to return to the buildings and finish out the day.
Classified staff has 2 options. 1. You can clock out after students are dismissed. 2. You can stay on the clock and complete your duties through the normal end of your day.

Unit 1 Assessments should be given during the week of October 9th - remember, our Wonders consultant did advise us to give this test over at least 2 days! I believe there may be 2 grade levels that will be ending their 6th week and need to give the Unit 1 Assessment during the week of the 16th! Either way, you will need the assessments COMPLETED and GRADED by the 20th of October for that day's work!

STAFF PICTURE: We will meet at 7:30 (this is 10 minutes BEFORE we have to report to recess duty)! We will meet in the ART ROOM! PLEASE, PLEASE be there - as I REALLY want all to be in the picture!!!!
Homecoming Day...
Kick-Off to Cardboard Challenge 8:30ish
ALL SCHOOL LUNCH: 11:00-11:35 (encourage your students to bring a sack lunch or a sack lunch will be provided) - IF weather is good - you'll take your students outside to eat....If weather is not so good (as it is projected) then we'll eat in our classrooms! I am planning on sack lunches to be delivered to classrooms (per the lunch count) before lunch time (10:45ish)!
DISMISSAL: 11:45am - buses will run this day
PARADE begins at 1:00
I will send out permission slips for grades 3, 4, 5 to walk in the parade! Parents will have to drop off at the City Park and pick up from the Safeway parking lot! We will make banners in the cafeteria throughout the week to walk with and during the walk we'll sing our High Hopes song and our SUNSET Chant!!! All staff - please plan on walking in the parade to support our students! If you can not do this, please come see me!
Once the parade is over and students have been picked up - then we'll return to Sunset to complete our day!
Hopefully, this is clear as MUD!!!! :) If you have questions, come see me!
Wonders and Assessment Recommendations...
1. Administer the Decoding Survey - I know that many, if not all, gave the Spelling Inventory assessment - however, as we analyzed this - we found that the Decoding Survey gives more information.
2. Do not give the Vocabulary Assessment - UNLESS we are finding through our Data Dialogues that their DAZE scores are low - then we'll make a decision per the team to move forward as this could be an option.
3. No Benchmark Assessments needed at this time....(You can put this book to the side for a bit)
4. Reading Comprehension Test - screener - Not at this time
5. Unit Test - YES (at the end of 6 weeks - this needs to be completed......should be done over a few days). If you have a student that cannot test using the General Education test - then come see me....
6. Weekly Assessments: Don't need to do - in it's entirety - instead take sections/pieces of this exam and use as EXIT ticket questions to check for understanding along the way - if you are still confused - come see me - your EXIT tickets should be the same among grade levels - so work closely with your grade level partner to pull these items out!
If this does not make sense - bring your assessment books and come see me or Ali!
Mandatory Reporter Training!
Hello MCSD employees. It is time again to refresh our knowledge base regarding child abuse and neglect and the legal obligations we have as public school employees. I have attached the link to the mandatory reporter training . ALL district employees must log in and complete this course. Once completed, please print the certificate and either scan and email to me or send it through the school mail.
Thanks in advance for your diligence to this matter. Renae
Thank you to those that have already stuck a copy of their completion page in my box! As you complete, please give me a copy of your completion page!!!!
Sunset Goals...
More to come!
A little 'treat' will be delivered Monday afternoon - to send home with your students that attended school on this day!
SLO Information
We will not have any district collab time to come to consensus on this year’s SLOs. So, we have set up shared google docs for each grade level/subject area to make changes and come to consensus on. Attached you will find the SLOs from 16-17. Please:
Review the 16-17 SLOs
Please give your consensus thoughts in the table for each SLO for keeping the SLO the same as 16-17 (unless otherwise noted)
Thumbs up - This is what I want to do.
Thumbs sideways - I can live with this decision - though it may not be my preference
Thumbs down - I do not want to do it.
If the all teachers have a thumbs up or sideways, that what will be presented to the principals for approval on Oct. 15
If there is a thumbs down, then the team will have to recommend a suggestion that the whole team can find consensus on
Timeline:
Teams reach consensus by Oct. 13
The elementary principals will get feedback about any necessary revisions to you by Oct. 18.
All revisions will need to be revised and approved by Oct. 31.
