Day 43
Good Morning
As many of you are seeing and reading it seems that this is the new normal. I have joined a statewide educator taskforce to begin looking at and surmising what the fall will look like for schools. I will be reporting out to you what is being discussed and how it will affect our SDCCS family.
We have 6 weeks of school until the summer and that breaks down to 29 day of school left. We are working really hard to try to continue engaging your kids in learning and being a part of a community that cares deeply for them. I am happy to report that we have successfully checked in and engaged with 100% of our students. Families are participating in our programs at different levels depending on their individual needs. If you are wanting more, less or different please make sure to communicate with your teachers, we are here for you.
We are packing our classrooms for our move. Teachers are rotating times, so there may be a week where distance learning looks a little different for you kids as the teachers need some time to pack up their rooms.

Brah, the Ocean’s, Like, Legal Again
San Diego County lifted its prohibition against people recreating in the water. But because many of the beaches are managed by cities, it’s now up to local leaders to decide when to actually open up the access points.
City of San Diego beaches are reopening at sunrise Monday, but officials are warning that social distancing requirements remain. As NBC San Diego noted, running and walking are cool, but you can’t sit or lie on the sand. You can swim, surf, kayak and paddleboard in the water, but you can’t boat yet.
Coronado is also reopening some beaches Monday — Mayor Richard Bailey said the dog park will remain closed — but not all cities are rushing to open back up. Del Mar, Solana Beach, Carlsbad and Encinitas all signaled that they needed more time to prepare.
“Unfortunately, the cities were anticipating an opening around May 1 or later, and weren’t given much advance notice of the county’s prohibition being lifted,” Encinitas Mayor Catherine Blakespear wrote in her newsletter. Staffing, signage and monitoring are a concern.
Encinitas was the site of another protest this weekend. City News Service reports that between 75 and 100 people showed up. The Sheriff’s Department arrested three for allegedly violating health orders. Protesters also gathered in Pacific Beach.

A pause on President Trump’s briefings
The president did not conduct a Q. and A. with reporters over the weekend, amid Republican concerns that his extended appearances at the White House’s daily coronavirus briefings are hurting him politically.
After suggesting last week that injections of disinfectants into the human body could help fight the virus, Mr. Trump took no questions at Friday’s briefing and later said that the events were no longer worth his time.
