Learning in the Library
Pre-K students visited the library, listened to a story, and checked out books to use in their classrooms. Pre-K students do not take their books home, but parents are invited to stop by the library and open up parent accounts at Fisher!
Kinder students have been reviewing rhyming words with the song "Five Green and Speckled Frogs" and the story "Frog on a Log" by Kes Gray. We have also continued our discussion on book care.
First graders are practicing how to check their own books out using their student ID numbers, and are working on using their shelf markers.
First and second grade students have been reviewing realistic fiction with the story "When's My Birthday" by Julie Fogliano. First and second graders are also learning about this year's 2x2 reading contest.
Third, fourth, and fifth grade students have been discussing fantasy fiction literature and participating in lessons on Elements of Plot. We have also been discussing the Texas Bluebonnet Reading Contest. Additionally, they got to meet Bluebonnet author Donna Bowman, author of "Step Right Up: How Doc and Jim Key Taught the World About Kindness". They heard about how Ms. Bowman became a writer, how she researches information for her books, and about her writing process. Thank you for speaking with some of our young Marlins, Ms. Bowman!

Introducing SORA!
Overdrive has created a whole new app called Sora to access all of your favorite eBooks, Audio books, and Movies. There are even new read-alongs for your enjoyment. Sora is easy to use, and has new features that the Overdrive Classic does not have.
What makes Sora great for students?
- · Easy to use, one tap to get inside a book
- · The largest catalog of ebooks and audiobooks…made even larger by access to your public library through Sora
- · Exportable notes, highlights for collaborative learning
- · Personalized with book recommendations and learning tools like dyslexic font, enlarged text, Read-Alongs and audiobooks
- · Badges and achievements to engage students
- · Same experience on all devices
- · Direct support for readers provided by OverDrive
More information:
- Use the "find my school option" if you are near your campus.
- Use the "johnpaulstevens" setup code if you cannot find your school.
- Get in and play with it! Hands on is the best learning experience!
- If students are logged in individually, Sora automatically keeps track of their reading time, number of books, and gives badges for student achievements!
- Be careful that students are using the preview feature to determine if they want the book, before they check it out. Check outs will use up metered access and make the book "go away" when our access is used up.
- STUDENTS NEED TO SIGN OUT BEFORE LEAVING THE SORA APP WHEN USING SHARED DEVICES .
