Message from the Director
Heart. We all have a physical one that starts pumping to get us up and out of bed each morning. But this week, I saw the heart of a team hard at work helping each other. Great teams communicate often, share ideas and find solutions together and this is exactly what I saw! Whether it's a product shortage, labor call-offs or just a mistake in ordering, you all come to each other's rescue. I love that you collaborate and feel comfortable asking for help. That's the support a team offers its members! When you work together it is a commitment to success and a promise to each other that you will not let a team member fail. Trusting each other is essential and I am more fortunate than most to see this in action every day! Happy Valentine's Day to all of you and thank you for giving your heart to our work.

It will be a well deserved day to catch up on your monthly cleaning logs, get ahead with preparation and complete some training to help you meet your professional standards requirements. Mark your calendars that April 11 is now a regular work day, too, and students will be in session.

Administrative Review: 2022-23 changes in menu requirements
In last week's edition, we discussed the sodium targets our menus must meet. Recently, USDA announced that for next year, Sodium limits will remain at Target 1 (yay). They did increase the whole grain requirement. Previously under the pandemic waivers, only half of all grains on the menu had to be whole grain rich. Next year, 80% of grain items on the menu have to be whole grain rich. The good news is that our menus are generally 90% or more whole grain rich already. The last change is for milk, allowing flavored milk to be either fat free or 1%. We use fat free flavored chocolate milk which allows us to have more calories "to spend" on other menu items.
