Thornhill Elementary PFC Newsletter
Volume 26, Issue 7, September 18, 2018
From the Principal
Dear Thornhill Families,
Thank you to all the families that have already contributed to the Back to School Donation Drive! With your support, Thornhill is able to provide a well-rounded education to our Thunderbirds. We appreciate your generosity! I’m also happy to report that we have a date for the Thornhill Auction: Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 2 (more info below).
Neva
We have a first grader, Sutton, whose three-year-old sister Neva has undergone a second bone marrow transplant due to her diagnosis of Neuroblastoma earlier this year. Neva has been through many medical procedures and we need your help. Her immune system will be vulnerable for the next 3-6 months and exposure to any illness could have detrimental effects. So please keep children that are sick at home! Last year, kindergarten parents supported us with this and it was incredibly helpful. Please read these guidelines for keeping students home from school, and contact our attendance clerk Zettie if you have any questions. Please support and follow Neva's Journey at Caring Bridge.
Sending love to Neva and the entire Nariani family from the Thornhill staff!
Sincerely,
Mr. Daubenspeck

Keep On Drivin’
Thank you so much to those families who have already contributed to the Back to School Donation Drive! We are at the halfway point of our campaign, and we have raised about 49% of our goal with 25% of families participating. We need your help! A donation at any level helps us raise the $1,000 per student that the PFC spends each year. Please consider supporting Thornhill at whatever level you are able. All families who donate will receive a fabulous Thornhill trucker hat and, of course, your donation is tax deductible. Remember, you can donate by check (send it in via the bright yellow envelope in your child’s homework folder or download a form from the website) or online. We also happily accept installments in amounts and frequency that works for you. More details are available on the website.
Thank you,
Adrienne Selke and Rianna Stoll, BSDD Co-Chairs

And Don’t Snooze on Reusin’
While we have your attention, here are a few more ideas on sustainability and ways to teach our kids green habits and awareness. Halloween and Thanksgiving season is starting soon and there will be classroom parties! We are asking that each classroom purchase reusable plates, cups and utensils, like the ones pictured. Some of us did this already and we love the idea of not having to use 400 paper plates for each school party.
We’d also like to raise everyone's awareness of trying to eliminate things out of our kids lunchboxes that add up to landfill.
Please share your ideas and lets go green!

Going once...going twice...!
We’re excited to share that the can’t-miss event of the year, the Thornhill Auction, will be Saturday, March 2, 2019 at the Colombo Club. Want to help make it great? We’re having our first Auction Committee Meeting on Wednesday, September 19 at 7:00pm. (Co-chair Kim Olofsen is hosting at her home.) Come on over, have a glass of wine/beer/juice box and find out more about volunteering for this wickedly fun event. Do you specialize in marketing? Ad sales? Graphic Design? Party planning? Decorations? Donation solicitation? The Kiki Challenge? We need it all! Please RSVP via Konstella! (Adults only please).
Thank you,
Kay Chinn & Kim Olofsen, 2019 Auction Co-Chairs
