Haverford HS Renovations Project Phase II

The Phase II music classroom wing addition was approved to move forward at the October 7th School Board meeting. The project includes a one-story addition for the orchestra and band classrooms as well as renovations to the adjacent interior spaces that currently are the band room, the fitness room, the keyboard lab, and existing bathrooms.
The project includes adding climate control not only to the renovated spaces and the addition but to the existing gym and both locker rooms as well. The work on the addition will start in November/December and continue through summer 2022. The interior renovations will start in June 2022 and will be completed for the start of school in September 2022. The parking lot behind the addition will be slightly modified and repaved in the summer of 2022.

Haverford Middle School Recognized as Outstanding Visual Arts Community

Haverford Middle School has been recognized by the Pennsylvania Art Education Association (PAEA) for its outstanding commitment to visual arts education for 2021. Districts receive the award by demonstrating the importance of visual arts education by offering:

· Rigorous and inclusive programs that use a standards-based curriculum taught by highly qualified and certified arts educators.

· Highly accessible programs offered to all students at every level and with a sustainable budget for the visual arts.

· Highly visible programs that are featured by the school on websites and social media.

Food Services Update: Food Substitutions

You may have seen news stories about disruptions in the supply chain across the country, including the foodservice industry. While Haverford Food Service will do everything it can to continue to offer nutritious, great-tasting meals, there will likely be more frequent menu changes based on product substitutions from our suppliers.

Families with students who have allergies: Please remind your child to be sure to check with the cafeteria manager regarding product substitutions that may not be reflected in the menu posted. We will make every attempt to update SDHT Nutrislice in real-time, but out of an abundance of caution, we highly recommend that families with students who have food allergies complete these forms.

Thank you in advance for your patience and flexibility as we work through these challenges.

Delayed PSSA & Keystone results due to expanded Testing Window

The Pennsylvania Department of Education extended the 2020-2021 PSSA and Keystone testing windows through the fall of 2021, and as a result, test results will be delayed. Data will be released in a first-round (preliminary) this fall, and individual student reports are expected in February. The District will send student reports home to families when we receive them from the state.

The Department of Education says participation in the 2021 assessments was adversely impacted by the pandemic and 2021 scores should not be compared to results in years prior to COVID.

National School Bus Safety Week

National School Bus Safety Week is a time for drivers nationwide to recognize the importance of stopping for school buses, as well as a host of other important school bus safety rules. Haverford will participate in the state's 25th annual Operation Safe Stop in which bus drivers will document any drivers who try to pass them illegally. Thank you to all drivers for following the rules and keeping our students safe.

Haverford HS Diaper Dry've

Haverford High School 's Diaper Dry've club holds its annual fundraiser each October. During this time, the club accepts diaper donations and raises money to purchase diapers for local families in need, and also to donate to organizations such as Cradles to Crayons in Philadelphia. They have collected over 9,500 diapers in past years and are always looking to top that number. With collection boxes around Havertown and a Venmo account accessible to all, we work to involve the entire community in our endeavor. If you would like to donate please see the Venmo QR code.
