NEWS, RESOURCES AND LEARNING FOR PANTHER STAFF, 10/23/17
Announcements for the Week of October 23-27, 2017
Congratulations to Monica Stokes for receiving the GREAT news that she has successfully renewed her National Board status. Way to go Monica.
Read-a-Thon: Read-a-Thon, our primary fundraiser, will conclude this Friday, October 27th. This gives all tracks one more week to raise additional funds. As of Saturday the school has raised slightly more than $34,729.90. Please help our school and PTA raise meet our goal of $55,000. We need your help in this!!!
Faculty News: Mr. Schenobeck has great news! He has found out his wife is pregnant with a baby boy! Congratulations!! Also, Ms. Griep is engaged and will have a bridal shower on November 16th from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM at Bottle Revolution 3 on Leadmine Road, Raleigh, N.C.
Readvolution: Please see the copy of the October 19th email regarding Readvolution and the partnership with the Carolina Hurricanes. Please track or help students track reading through the Readvolution website. Include information in your parent blogs/newsletters. See the email for details.
Dreambox: Great to see some of our grade level teams actively using Dreambox. The goal that is expected for each student is an hour per week. Several of our classrooms have met that goal and more. If you aren’t at that level of usage please schedule your students for this time frame. If you have technical questions regarding using Dreambox please see Annette or alert Kevin. We will be scheduling a support webinar with Dreambox in the near future as part of our subscription and to assist you with any questions. Their support team is very prompt with answering your questions if you have any in the short term.
Firelanes: Please alert parents that cars should not remain in the fire lane in the carpool loop without a driver in the car and the car engine running. Cars parked in fire lanes are subject to a traffic ticket if observed by law enforcement. Cars can park in the parking lot or in areas not designated by "fire lane" markings. We hope to have the markings painted over to help make the areas more clear.
New Courier Schedule: The courier schedule is changing. We will have pick up every 1st and 2nd day of the month. Other than that it will only be Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays. This new schedule begins on November 6th.
Volunteer Help: We can’t guarantee more than what you have already asked of parents in your room but if we know your needs we will try to work with the PTA Volunteer Committee and Office Staff to support you. Please discuss in your PLTs or Common Planning and let Lara or Kevin know.
- What are your specific grade level student needs for a volunteer?

Read-a-Thon Ends this Friday, October 27
Read-a-Thon will end this Friday, October 27th. This will give all tracks one more week to meet our goal. As of Saturday the school has raised slightly more than $34,729.90. If you haven't earned $1000 as a class please check with all of your families to see if they have contributed. Any little bit helps. Your continued enthusiasm and support for this important fundraiser through to Friday, October 27th will make all the difference.
Congrats to the classrooms below that have earned $1000 or more. Each class in this category that has not enjoyed a wild rumpus will be scheduled over the next two weeks. Let's make this last push to raise money to fund the PTA Budget which ultimately funds classrooms and staff. Hats off to the $1500 and over classrooms.

How Can YOU Help? Make sure all of your students are set up. If they aren't set up your class isn't giving itself and the school a chance toward making strides toward reaching our goal.
- Get your child’s page set up and send it to close family and friends. There is no requirement to use social media. Let’s bring on the Wild Rumpus parties, dirt cake parties and pies in the face. This is a celebration of Reading and your child’s success in our school!
- Please remember that although large contributions help, it isn't the large contributions that make the difference in fundraisers. It is every participant setting up for 3, or more donors. Our goal was based on each Pleasant Union child arranging for 3 donors of at least $30 each to reach our $55,000 goal.

Global News
Thanks to the Global Committee and especially Heather Shipley for organizing and guiding us through our learning modules. Heather stated after our learning session on Friday that she is happy to work with grade levels or individuals on each module. Our due date for completing modules 1-3 is November 21, the day before Thanksgiving Break.
Please share the global activities that you have and are working on now. There are some great activities going on. Be proud of your accomplishments. We would like to share them in upcoming Parent Messages, Wake County Schools and local television stations. The Afterschool Program was working on Aussie boomerangs and Japanese lanterns last Friday.
