Stefanie McDowell/Student Services Aid

I am the student services aid. I help the students schedule appointments with their counselors. I also assist the counselors with projects they may have. Love my job love the people I work with. Before working here at JO Combs High School I was a stay at home mom for 16 yrs. I have 5 children and have been married for 20 yrs.

Brandon Outcalt/Counselor A-F

I am a part of the wonderful counseling team we have here at the high school and am responsible for last names beginning with A-F. I love my job and am always excited to come to work. I love helping our kids. My door is always open to any student. I am our point of contact for our in state Universities and organize their visits to us and our field trips to them. Some of my other duties consist of "Coyote Team" leader, AZ Merit testing, and AZCIS to name a few. I have loved my time here getting to know the community and I'm very proud to be a part of this Combs team. I love sports, comics, movies/TV shows, being outside and the beach!

Jolene Petersen/Counselor G-M

I am an Arizona native, born and raised in Show Low. Since my childhood home was on one hill and my Elementary/Junior High Schools were on neighboring hills and we got snow, I can actually use the old adage that I walked uphill to school both ways and in the snow and mean it. My family and I have lived in the Phoenix area since 1993, locating to San Tan Valley 15 years ago. We love the small town feel, the openness of the area, and the people are awesome!

My sweetheart and I celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary this year and are the proud parents to 4 children, 1 amazing Son and daughter in law, 2 grandchildren, and 1 crazy dog. We love to camp, fish, hike, go to the movies, and travel. When I'm not busy with all my mom and counselor duties, I enjoy reading a good book, playing my piano, baking, and watching my favorite movies.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Communication with a Minor in History from ASU and received my Master of Education in School Counseling from Ottawa University. My personal goal is to make sure that each student leaves my office a little better off than they came in and I believe that every student can find success if they are willing to work for it. This is my second year at Combs High School and I love my job!

Brenda Lohr/Counselor N-Z

Hi. My name is Brenda Lohr and I am the counselor for students whose last names fall between N and Z. I wear a number of hats here which include being the coordinator of the AP Program (especially testing), the Arizona Civics exam, the PSAT and facilitating the new Parent University evening presentations. I am also the chair of the counseling department. Although I am new to Combs High School this year, this is my 24th year in education. In my personal life I am the mother of two grown children and grandmother of five and I spend all of my limited spare time with them. I grew up in Pinal county and my husband and I still live in Casa Grande, so I am really excited to have the opportunity to be here. I have fallen in love with this school and its students and am looking forward to helping them find ways to reach their goals and achieve their dreams.

COUNSELORS CORNER

Did you know??? It's time to register your classes for the 2021-2022 school year! Students watched a presentation video in their English classes on how to choose their electives, and counselors will be meeting with them next week to answer any questions, go over credit counts and requirements, and confirm choices counselors met. The counseling department also met with the 8th graders at Combs Middle School on Tuesday, February 2, to give them information about high school, answer questions about classes, how to get credits to graduate, and help them start the registration process in StudentVue. Remember that choices can be changed until the registration window closes, so feel free to explore a bit. Once the registration window closes, students can still get some changes, but they will need to talk to their counselor. If you have questions on how to help your student start or continue the process, please watch this short video:

PARENT SURVEY

Combs High School Parents – We Request Your Input!

In 2020-2021, CHS has continued our efforts towards school improvement and growth. This spring our efforts will culminate in a virtual visit by our Cognia Accreditation Team. They will be looking at our school’s strengths and conducting a thoughtful review of our campus as a whole. We will be asking our students, staff, parents and San Tan Valley community members to assist us in feedback through surveys. The goal of this process is to work with experts and our community to address our challenges and empower our efforts towards building the high quality school our community deserves.

Your input is vital to our process.

Please take our Parent Survey using the following email address link:

Thank you in advance for your assistance and time.

SUPPORT CHS WITH TAX CREDIT

Q. What is a school tax credit?

Several years ago, the Arizona State Legislature passed a tax law (ARS 43-1089.01) that allows up to $400 tax credit for married couples filing jointly or $200 for individuals, who make a donation to a public school to support extracurricular activities. A TAX CREDIT IS A DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR REDUCTION OF YOUR TAX LIABILITY.

Q. Who can take advantage of this school tax credit?

The law is set up so that any taxpayer may contribute to a public school, regardless of whether the taxpayer has a child attending the school. Corporations, limited liability companies, and partnerships are not eligible for the tax credit. You must, however, be a taxpayer in the state of Arizona. The tax credit can be claimed on personal income tax returns only.

Q. How can you take advantage of this tax credit?

First, decide which school you wish to support: J.O. Combs Middle School, Kathryn Sue Simonton Elementary, Harmon Elementary, Ellsworth Elementary, Ranch Elementary, Combs Traditional Academy, or Combs High School. Then decide which extracurricular activities you wish to designate with your contribution. Extracurricular activities are any school sponsored activity that requires enrolled students to pay fees in order to participate; such as extended field trips, sports activities, band, drama, art, science labs, technology etc. The Site Council at each school will determine where non-designated contributions are to be appropriated.

Write a check up to $400 for married couples filing jointly or up to $200 for individual filing made payable to one of the above schools or to J.O. Combs Unified School District and designate an activity if desired. Or, you can pay online by clicking on the Pay Tax Credit Online button located on the left hand sidebar, and use your credit card to contribute. Be sure to send your completed Tax Credit Form to the school's office.

Pay online using the link in the button located on the left hand sidebar, or mail, or deliver your contribution with Combs Tax Credit Form to the school of your choice or to the district office at the corner of Combs and Gantzel no later than April 15. By doing this, your school gets the extra funding it needs to pay for extracurricular activities of your choice!
