Last Day of School for Students
Ted Scheu the Poetry Guy!
Ted Scheu (pronounced "shy"), author and poet, visited Julian Curtiss this week and stayed in residence for three days helping our students craft inspirational poems. He helped students hone their poetic license by using strategies such as choosing every word carefully and "Showing, Not Telling" a poem.
Mr. Scheu's advice on "How to Cook a Poem":
Grab a juicy fresh idea
and toss it in a pot.
Stir it on the burners
of your brain to get it hot.
Ask your child about their experience with Mr. Scheu this week, and cook up some poems at home!
Congratulations, Ms. Hinkle!

Be a Pollinator Hero: Make a Mason Bee House
Sunday, April 7
2:00 to 4:00 pm
Keeping native non-stinging mason bees is an easy way to help the environment and give your kids a rewarding "backyard" educational project. In return, these hyper-efficient pollinators will do wonders for your flower and vegetable gardens!
This workshop, sponsored by the Pollinator Pathway group, will provide valuable information about mason bees and how to attract and keep them in your garden. Tools and materials will be provided to construct a housing unit and make it perfect for your outdoor installation.
Free admission. No reservations required. Family botany activities all afternoon.
Held at the Floren Family Environmental Center at Innis Arden Cottage, Greenwich Point Park, Old Greenwich, CT.
Sensory Friendly Saturday at the Maritime Aquarium
For some, The Maritime Aquarium is a place with too much stimuli. So on Sun., April 7, the Aquarium is planning a special morning to give guests with sensory-processing differences a fun, comfortable and accepting environment. On "Sensory-Friendly Morning," lights in the Aquarium will be lower, and music and other sounds will be turned down or off. The Aquarium also will show specially selected IMAX movies, with lower volume and the theater lights less dim. For more information, please click on the link below:
