The Hornung Elementary Virtual Gift Shop starts November 19th and will run until December 3rd. To shop, visit Funshops.org/Hornung and use the code: hornung2021. Deliveries will be done in mid-December.


The week of December 6th-10th, we will support BOUNTIFUL HARVEST’S Food Drive for families in Livingston County. The break-down of giving is:


Monday: Gently used Winter Wear

Tuesday: Canned Goods
Wednesday: Boxed Goods

Thursday: Pet Supplies

Friday: Toiletries


We hope you will be able to help. There will be school prize levels for the total number of pieces donated. More details will follow.

A big thanks to everyone who came out to Olga’s Kitchen on Wednesday to help raise funds for the PTO.

Please call in your student's absence to the Attendance Line every day they are absent from school. Please give a brief reason why they are absent, whether it be a vacation, personal or illness. If your student is ill, please provide a brief description of their symptoms. If you do not call in your student's absence, a Robocall goes out around 2 PM. If you receive the Robocall, that means your student has an unexcused absence.

Please pack a change of clothes

Please make sure you pack a change of clothes in your child's backpack EVERY DAY. This is for ALL grades. You never know when your student may have a nosebleed, have a spill, get muddy or have a bathroom accident. If they have a change of clothes, then we can take care of it, otherwise we will need to call home for you to bring up a change of clothing. Thank you for your cooperation.

The McKinney Vento Act

The Brighton Area Schools is part of a consortium to serve students in temporary living situations that provides financial support for educational needs, referral for housing, clothing and other needs, general support and technical assistance. To ensure compliance with federal law, all school staff must help identify student living in the following situations: emergency shelters/transitional housing, motels/hotels, car, parks or public spaces, shared housing due to a loss of housing or economic hardship, or living temporarily with non-parent or guardian.

The district’s homeless liaison is Starr Acromite and each building has trained staff members to assist in the endeavor. Our consortium contact at the Livingston Educational Service Agency is Candice Uyttendaele.
