School Tour Dates
School Tours for Prospective Families/Students are starting this week and will continue through December 12th, 2019. Please don plan to do anything special. Rather do what you would normally do and hope for the best. If your showing a movie associated with learning, don't fret, just explain the context of the movie within the larger learning goals, if your giving a test, just ask the guest to look on quietly. Regardless, keep doing what you always do!
The following are the dates that you may expect to see visitors between 9:30 and 11:00. As always, I will generally try to check in with folks the day or evening before, and I will try not to send folks your way each tour date (2-3x at most) as I know its a bother...but you all do great things and people want to see. If you know a particular date just doesnt work, please send me an email here...or use the link below that I am sharing to identify which dates work best and least for you.

CTE Credentials
The High School Linked Learning Office has been working hard to develop a clear, equitable, and compliant process for the CTE credential incentive funds. Funding will be award to teachers on a first-come, first-served basis up until December 31, 2019, with required deliverables accepted until February 28, 2020.
Some questions that folks might have about the incentive funds for CTE credentials:
At what point can the teacher expect to receive the incentive funds?
The funding is attached to deliverables outlined in the application, which are submitted after completion of coursework.
I took courses in a previous year. an I submit an application now?
Unfortunately, we can’t post-date this opportunity. We hope that we can support your continued education in other ways in the future.
I’m interested. What are my next steps?
Check this out. Our understanding is that the next class starts in January, so plan carefully.
If you have further questions on CTE credentialing, please feel free to reach out to Daniel Spinka at daniel.spinka@ousd.org.
Have you given any Incompletes? If so, this is what you need to do!
Unless you complete a grade change form, the student still has an incomplete. Teachers have 10 days to change an “Incomplete.” Please see Ms. Ethel to change an incomplete.
What does a D mean?
A D grade allows students to:
Not repeat a class
A D grade does not allow students to:
Graduate A-G compliant
Use that grade to apply for colleges
Does not help the student earn a 2.0 GPA
IEP Support
Compliance remains an important priority and indicator of quality in our district's Special Education service continuum. For each child with a disability who requires Specialized Academic Instruction, the IEP serves as a critical driver of instruction and student supports. We are committed to holding every IEP on time. This means that annual reviews must be completed at least once per year before the date of the last review, and triennials must be held no more than three years from the date of the last evaluation. This year, we are monitoring our timely completion of initial referrals for Special Education, as well, which must be completed within 60 days of our receipt of a signed assessment plan.
Raul Nunez is able to assist with SEIS needs on Monday and Wednesday 2:30 to 4:30 at Cole on a drop-in basis. He can be reached at raul.nunez@ousd.org.
If you need assistance with writing IEPs, please feel free to email peggy.forbes@ousd.org or call her at (510) 879.8090. Peggy's office hours are every:
Monday 3-5pm, Cole (1011 Union St.)
Thursday 2-4pm, Cole (1011 Union St)
We are offering IEP compliance sessions at bi-monthly IEP camps at Cole from 8:30-11:30:
9/5 , 9/19. 10/3, 10/17, 10/31, 11/14, 11/28, 12/12
Reminders
Attendance
Teachers. This is a reminder that your attendance must be taken in the first 15 minutes of class. Oakland Tech’s teacher attendance completion rate is 85%. We need to be at 90 % to keep from being audited and we need your help. Students are not permitted off-campus during class times.
Staff Meetings
Teachers, staff meetings are mandatory and those that do not attend will be docked. Please sign in for all meetings.
ChromeBook Carts
Teachers if you have a Chromebook cart housed in your classroom we are counting on your support to keep the Chromebooks locked up and in good condition. At the end of the day, you must lock the Chromebook Carts up and make sure the carts are secured to the wall. We have found carts like this at the end of the day. Please show the carts some love and secure our resources.
