Mrs. Baker's Class Newsletter

April 6, 2017

What is going on?

Writing: Students will write their own how to procedural text based on a topic of interest.

We will continue our editing and revising review, and learn skills to answer multiple choice questions about grammar.

Spelling Words and Grammar: brown, change, face, hard, might, read, ten, yes

Reading: We will begin our unit, “Read Like a Third Grader”. In this unit, we teach strategies strong readers use to comprehend and answer questions about a selection of text. These strategies include: numbering paragraphs, rereading the questions two times, and going back to the text to find evidence for an answer choice. These strategies will be used on the 2nd Grade Language Arts Benchmark in May.

Math: We will continue our unit on fractions. Students will learn to recognize and describe objects partitioned into halves, fourths, and eighths through various activities, problems, and concrete models. We will assess student learning at the end of the week.

Science: We are continuing studying plants and their structures. Students will identify the basic needs of plants while observing, recording, and comparing how the physical characteristics of plants help them meet those basic needs. They will discover the parts of plants with some hands on experiments.
