Tardies & Attendance
Tardies - We have recently an uptick in the amount of students being tardy to school. Please allot enough time in the morning so your child can arrive to school prior to 7:45am. Our goal is that all students are in their classroom's ready to learn by 7:45am each day. Reminder if you bring your child to school after 7:45 am, you will need to bring them to the main entrance (door 1) and sign them in with your ID.
Attendance - Should your child be absent from school, please call school, (614) 450-4810 to report the absence or email our attendance administrator, Michelle Hutchings at mhutchings@wscloud.org. We also appreciate if you know of an absence ahead of time, you email your child’s teacher.
House Bill 410 - Ohio State Attendance Law
- The state of Ohio requires school districts to track all student's attendance. Attendance is tracked by hours, and is broken into 2 categories, "excessive absence" and "habitual truancy."
- Excessive Absence - This is the total number of hours a child misses school, regardless if those hours are excused or unexcused. When a students reaches 38 hours in one month, or 65 hours in a school year, our tech. department will send an automatically generated letter to families. When a student reaches the excessive absence hours, the principal may reach out to the family in an attempt to intervene.
- Habitual Truancy - The state also counts hours for each student when they are absent from school without a legitimate excuse. When a student reaches 30+ consecutive hours OR 42+ cumulative hours in a month, or 72+ hours in a school year, families will receive a letter from our tech department. Within 7 days a school representative will reach out. Within 10 days an absence intervention team will be created, and within 14 days an Absence Intervention Plan will be created. If after 60 days it is deemed there has not been satisfactory improvement in the child's attendance, truancy charges may be filed for educational parental neglect.
Winter Weather Reminder
Cold temperatures are here. We encourage all parents to send students with coats, hats, and gloves in their bookbags daily. As a school- we always try to utilize our beautiful grounds and playground as much as possible. Even in winter months, our students will be going outside as long as the temperature at or above 20 degrees. Below is more information from our District Elementary Handbook. Thank you for helping keep our White Tigers warm!
Weather and health permitting, we expect all children to go outside for recess. In our schools, when the weather is dry/dry enough, and the temperature is 20 degrees or higher, real temperature, or wind-chill, we plan to take students outside for recess. It is critically important that parents/guardians send students appropriately dressed for the weather conditions and seasons.
