Grades Updated ~ For All Schedules

Happy Fall -students & parents!

I have updated the 18, 16, 14, & 12 week grade book to reflect assignments that have NOT been turned in by the September 24th due date. Items that have been submitted have been graded. Don't worry, if you submitted a dropbox, posted a discussion, or took a quiz, then I will get those graded. Items that HAVE been submitted did not receive a 0. Only items that were due on September 24th and were NOT submitted received a 0.

Students have three school days to submit late work for a reduced grade. Please see the late work policy image below. We have had a great two weeks. Keep up the good work and contact me with any questions.

Grading Your Work

It can take up to 72 hours (3 school days) for instructors to grade your work. Please be patient while teachers are grading. Work may take longer to grade after the due date, but I will notify you of the delay.

Questions about Discussion Grades??

Big image
Whether your goal is to increase or to maintain your current grade, all of these strategies boost student learning potential. If you are unhappy with your grade, challenge yourself with one (or many) of the following to establish some good student habits for success.

Strategy 1: Follow That Schedule!

The biggest mistake students make is not completing assignments on time.

Print out your schedule and use it as a daily checklist. The expectation is that students stick to the schedule and work in the course each day for at least one hour or more. Turn in all your assignments on time. If you have a late assignment - turn it in by Monday so that you only lose a meager 10%!

Strategy 2: Read Your Feedback!

Did you know that every assignment you submit gets a personal response from your teacher for you to view?Feedback helps you focus on your study needs.Discussion feedback is viewed in the Gradebook. Quiz and Dropbox feedback is viewed where you submit those assignments. When you are notified of a graded assignment - immediately look at the feedback!

Strategy 3: Communicate!

Students are expected to read email and News Announcements in the course daily. Email or call your teacher with questions as they arise. Participate fully in class discussions and chat sessions where you can.

Strategy 4: Interact with the Course Content!

The content (our course textbook) contains all the information for the course. The assignment schedule is taken from the content. The content explains the assignments, how they are graded and where to submit them. Print out pictures or other important information from the content. Print the rubrics for projects and use them! When you are taking an online course, the content is your textbook and guide for independent learning.

You have a number of study materials at your disposal in theUser Links Widget within the course:

  • Weekly Chat Recordings (by topic): watch teacher/student interaction, download supplemental materials

  • Topic Pinboards: resources related to our content compiled by your instructor (games, practice quizzes, videos, etc.)
  • USA Test Prep/Shmoop: Take practice tests for each topic and earn bonus points on the test

A Note About Accommodations

Many students receive accommodations through GaVS. Please note that these newsletters (and grade update emails) go to all students. Likewise, failing phone calls go out to all students, regardless of accommodations. If you have a due date extension due to accommodations, zeros are entered and your grade replaces the zero when the work is submitted.

Need Help?????

Your course home page has two course navigation videos, located at the top of the page. These include demonstrations of how to do various things in your course. You can also use the "Help" icon (on the top of your page). Click on the "FAQ" link on the left side of the help menu to find video demonstrations of tasks like: submitting dropbox assignments, completing quizzes, and participating in discussions. Please contact me if you have questions.

Parent Auditor Accounts

If you have a parent auditor account, please connect it to your student's account in order to see the most up to date grade. If you have not yet created an account, please do that as soon as possible. The link below explains all of those procedures.

Please note my contact information above.

Keep my phone number & email address in a place that is easy to reach. If you have a special circumstance, please let me know. Here are some situations that might merit an immediate contact:

* Medical situation (hospitalization, extreme sickness, injury): Contact me BEFORE a due date if you have been too sick to complete work. Please note that a note from the doctor may be required to authorize any extensions for sickness.

* Technology emergency: Please notify me BEFORE a due date if you experience a technology issue. If you lose power, get kicked out of a test, have a computer crash, or other extreme situation, please let me know immediately. We understand that these things happen, but also expect students to have a back-up plan for technology issues. Plan to use a computer at school, the library, a friend or family member's computer, etc.

* General Assignment/Course Questions: These are best answered by email, but feel free to call me as well.
