Teacher Spotlight: Kelsee Anderson, High School Biology Teacher
πFamilyπ

Meet Kelsee Anderson
Kelsee Anderson teaches 9th Grade Biology at Quitman High School. She attended college at NTCC and WCJC, but graduated from Western Governor's University. She has been in education 4 years, with the last 3 of those being in Quitman. She has also worked for LaPoyner ISD. Kelsee has also taught English II a few years ago.
Kelsee is engaged and has 4 children--Sevrin (6th Grader), Levi (2nd Grader), Rexford (Pre-K), and Keighlee (Bulldog Learning Center). She loves her big family! In their spare time, they love to travel, explore, and hang out with friends and family as much as possible.
What aspects of the teaching profession do you find most rewarding?
Where do I begin? Educational wise, I love when students finally "get it". When they struggle to understand something, but after practicing and practicing, they say, "OH MY GOSH! I GET IT NOW!" That's pretty rewarding in itself. On a more personal side, I love when I have kids from past years who come hug me every day or who say I was their favorite teacher. I've had past students thank me for never giving up on them, students who will talk my ear off when I see them outside of school because they know I care about what they have to say. Sometimes we don't see the good we've done in our student's life until later on. When I'm wondering if I'm doing enough in my job, it never fails that a student will show me why I'm here.
How do you utilize data to inform and enhance instructional practices?
After a test, I will print the data from DMAC. I will look over the results and see what questions were most missed. We will then go over those questions once all students have taken the test. Sometimes those questions are in a bell work and sometimes we just go over all of them at once. I would say it just depends on how many questions there were that were hard for them to answer correctly. Some of the most missed questions from the past will be in a test they will take in the future. I give incentives to classes who have the most students pass. I look at how each student did for each test. I can usually gauge at how my students are going to do by how hard they work during the weeks before a test. I will pull students during Q-time/advisory to go more in depth in the tests that were failed or go over information before a test. I will also pull past units of study into the unit we are currently working on, so the students are able to see how everything scientifically comes together.
What factors to you attribute to the EOC Department's exceptional performance
as a Professional Learning Community?
I enjoy listening to other teachers talk about how they get their data and what they do with it, and I hope that I do the same for them. I'm still a new teacher and have a lot to learn. I share what I learn from others, and I listen when they have things to share with me. I believe our meetings are substantial in how we grow as a group and as individual teachers.
