Table Talk

The information in this newsletter is designed to help with daily conversations with your child. It lets you know what your child/children will be learning in school. It also includes any updates and reminders.


Unit 3

Theme: Live and Learn

Essential Question: How do the interactions we have with the people, places, and things in our world affect us?

We will use the text and illustrations to help us better understand the characters, setting, and plot. We will take a closer look at the characters and identify attributes that describe their physical appearance, behavior, and character traits. We will find evidence in the text/illustrations to support the attributes we choose. We will also learn how different characters respond to the same event.



Long a spelled ai (rain), ay, (hay), ei (eight), ey (they), and ea (break).


Use the spelling menu to choose activities that will help your child/children to learn the list of words. Your child may come up with a new idea to practice his/her words. Just remember to have your child/children write what they did to practice his/her words in their spelling notebook and parents initial or sign it.


On Friday your child will take a spelling test. It will include 5 of the words from the skill list for the week, 2 words from a previous list, and the 3 high frequency words form this week's list. The test will also include a sentence section. Your child/children will choose a word from the test and write in in a sentence. The sentence will be graded for CAPSS.


We will continue to use the writing process (Brainstorming, Drafting, Revising, Editing, Publishing) when completing our narrative piece. We will also be working on our informational writing by creating a zoo sign for the animal we chose.


This Week:

We will be continue to learn about the sun, moon, and the stars.

Please send in a shoebox for our diorama project next week. If you would like to donate more than one shoebox it would be greatly appreciated.


Ms. Patrick, our intern, taught a wonderful lesson on fluency. The students learned the acronym EARS to help them self evaluate and improve their fluency skills.

Birthday Celebration

Our December birthday celebration will be on Thursday, December 3rd (3:00-3:30). Parents are welcome to come celebrate. If your child would like to bring in something to share with the class, we are requesting indoor/outdoor recess equipment, books, crafts, etc.

  • 11/16-11/20 - American Education Week
  • 11/17- Grade 2 - Visitation for American Education Week (9:30-11:55 and 12:25-3:30)
  • 11/17 - Library (bring library books to school)
  • 11/26 and 11/27 - Schools Closed (Thanksgiving)
