Aevidum, a student-driven national organization, started in 2003 at Cocalico High School in Lancaster, PA, after the tragic suicide of a classmate. Since then, this organization and its message has rapidly spread throughout the country, empowering our youth to find their voices and discover their strengths. Aevidum, meaning 'I've Got Your Back,' inspires students to create and promote a school community where every student belongs, plays a vital role and is valued. Aevidum's hallmark is its student-based clubs but it is much more than just a club - it is a way for students to think outside the box about how they can make a positive impact in the school community.

OVHS is looking to bring Aevidum to our school and follow in the footsteps of our younger students who have already established Aevidum at OVMS.

More details on Aevidum at the high school will follow in future newsletters. Feel free to visit the Aevidum website listed below for more information.

Red Ribbon Week

Since 1988, the last week in October has been designated as Red Ribbon Week. This week is a time to focus on making healthy life decisions for our future. Through prevention, awareness and sense of school community, we can support each other in remaining substance-free.

Themes for Red Ribbon Week 2021:

10/25 Monday - Wear Red Day

10/26 Tuesday - Hat Day (Put a Lid on Drugs)

10/27 Wednesday - Sports Team (Team Up Against Vaping)

10/28 Thursday - College/Company Wear (Keep an Eye to Your Future)

10/29 Friday - Blue and White Day (Lynx Always Stick Together)

Trivia of the Day Contest - we will also hold a daily trivia contest via Schoology with a drawing to win a prize through our Lynx Express team.

Wear Orange on October 20th - Unity Day

In recognition of October being Bullying Prevention Month, we're hoping to make "Unity Day" a school-wide celebration on October 20th. Unity Day was created for schools and communities to come together against bullying and to promote kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.

Part of Unity Day is encouraging everyone to wear orange on Oct. 20th. The color orange was chosen to represent Unity Day because it is described as vibrant, warm and inviting, and is commonly associated with safety and visibility.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

On Friday, October 22, we encourage all staff and students to wear the color Pink to honor survivors and remember those lost to the disease.
