Tracey's Tools to Try

Highlighting cool tools to try next week

April 6, 2014

This Week's Focus

This week I have selected three tools for displaying what students know using graphs and charts. We live in a visual word and students often find the old adage "A picture paints a 1,000 words" to be true. A neat way to integrate any of these tools into your lesson could be to allow students to choose one of the tools and summarize a process (like how photosynthesis works), diagram circuits/floor plans/wiring that they created, or create Venn Diagrams to compare and contrast concepts. At a recent visit to EMIS, I saw how widely students interpreted the assignment when given such choice to display their knowledge. Students noted it was helpful to see information displayed graphically, visually and textually because it helped them understand concepts better.
