Math Norms
Kindergarten Math
Topic 3: Counting Quantities 1 to 10
Topic 3: Numerals 6-10
Topic 4: Compare Numbers 0-10
Students count groups of objects and write the corresponding numerals. Students then determine which number is greater and which is less. Students also identify groups that are equal in number and not equal in number. This work builds the foundation to enable students to compare numbers not associated with a group of objects.
1st Grade Math
Topic 1: "Compare Situations"
Topic 3: Addition Facts to 20- Count On
Topic 3: Addition Facts to 20- Doubles and Near Doubles
2nd Grade Math
Topic 3: Add Within 100 Using Strategies
Topic 3: Solve Word Problems
Topic 4: Fluently Add Within 100
3rd Grade Math
Topic 3- Apply Properties: Multiplication Facts for 3, 4, 6, 7, 8
Equal Groups: Multiplication facts are presented within the context of equal groups.
Topic 4- Use Multiplication to Divide
Students learn the inverse relationship between multiplication and division without remainders.
3 ACT Math: Thirsty Students
Video: A teacher is handing out bottles of water and juice boxes on a field trip. We see approximately how many of each type are left.
Main Question: How many bottles of water did the students drink?
4th Grade Math
Topic 3: Use Strategies and Properties to Multiply by 1-Digit Numbers
Number Sense: Students apply the properties of multiplication and place-value understanding to multiply multiples of 10, 100, and 1,000 by 1-digit numbers.
Distributive Property: Students apply the Distributive Property throughout the topic as they use partial products to find the product of a 1-digit number and a multi-digit number.
Topic 4: Use Strategies and Properties to Multiply by 2-Digit Numbers: Developing Multiplication Strategies
Students use arrays, area models, the Distributive Property, and partial products to multiply two 2-digit numbers.
3 ACT Math: Covered Up
Video: A boy is covering the sides of a box with square stickers.
Main Question: How many stickers do you need to cover a box?
5th Grade Math
Topic 3: Fluently Multiply Multi-Digit Whole Numbers
Multiply by 1-Digit Numbers: Use the standard algorithm for multiplication using the partial products strategy.
Multiply by 2-Digit Numbers: Students extend the standard multiplication algorithm and use the partial-products strategy.
Topic 4: Use Models and Strategies to Multiply Decimals
Multiply Decimals: Students use models to begin understanding the process of multiplying a whole number and a decimal and multiplying two decimals.
3 ACT Math: Morning Commute
Video: The video shows a passenger train driving by. The train moves too fast to count the number of cars.
Main Question: How many seats are on the train?
