Classroom Guidance Lessons
This month during Classroom Guidance students will be learning skills for problem solving. Students who are skilled at problem solving typically get along well with peers and have fewer conflicts and problems with aggression. We will practice the following steps steps to safely and respectfully solve problems with peers.
S - Say the problem without blame. This allows students to see the problem from a neutral perspective and reduces the potential for escalation.
T - Think of solutions. Students explore possible ways to compromise or get help if needed.
E - Explore consequences. What will the outcome of each solution choice be?
P - Pick the best solution. Which solution has the best, safest, and most desirable outcome?
These steps can be used when solving problems with peers as well as siblings and adults. Practicing them with your child will reinforce their learning and help to make the process flow more effectively when faced in real life situations.
Career Exploration Events for 5th Grade
Following The Game of Life, students will be given a self-assessment interest inventory. This inventory will then match student interests and personality with general career areas. Although 5th grade is young, exploring interests and possible opportunities beyond secondary school is a great way to engage students in planning for their future and to motivate them to perform at their highest academic potential.
