Schoology & Google Sites
2019 Website Refresh Update
Moving Forward With Teacher Pages
In an effort to create a consistent platform for teacher communication and provide portability of pages, we are encouraging staff to use an alternative from the website for teacher pages.
We strongly recommend using Schoology and Google Sites. While there will not be teacher pages on the new website, we will have a staff directory with the ability to link to outside pages. The district will be providing Schoology and Google Sites workshops with detailed dates down below.
What is Schoology?
Schoology is a Learning Management System (LMS) requiring a login for students and parents to access. Within Schoology, teachers can create assignments that can be completed and graded within the LMS. Assessments and formative assessments can be developed and graded within Schoology, providing timely feedback for students. Furthermore, Schoology allows students to engage in discussions with the class within the platform. Information can be organized through folders, calendars, and direct links.
What is Google Sites?
Google Sites is a website. It can be accessed publicly without a login. Google Sites has many options such as calendars, links for assignments, blogging, updates and access to static information.
What's the Difference?
SCHOOLOGY
- Schoology allows for assignments, assessments, and discussions.
- It provides a great hub for a blended classroom environment.
- Students tend to live in the Schoology environment and become very comfortable with it quickly.
- If the purpose is to engage in student dialogue digitally, Schoology provides a discussion option that motivates a deep level of conversation, involving most students.
- Teachers can organize assignments, content, information, assessments in units, making it easy for students to access learning beyond the walls of the classroom.
GOOGLE SITES
- Google Sites is a place to provide information regarding the classroom.
- Teachers can use this as a place to provide general (or specific) information for students and parents.
- Parents generally prefer website access such as Google Sites
- It is a place to store year long information, expectations, and other static information you want to provide.
- Google Sites also allows attachments, such as assignments or homework.
