Customs
In Holland they have "crown" years, like 5, 10, 15, 20... and so on. On these crown years the children receive especially large gifts. The parents also decorate the children s chair in the dining room with seasonal flowers, paper streamers, paper flowers, and balloons.
People in Holland hang birthday calendars, to remind them when family and friends birthdays are. If they cannot visit them on there special day they send cards.
They rarely send invitations and if they do it is to "coffee" from like 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. later on drink would be served. When the Dutch visit it is custom for them to bring a bunch of flowers or candy. A bottle of wine is also appreciated. The dutch don't like when people show up unannounced even on a birthday.
