Week Of February 25th
Welcome back!
We hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing vacation!
We are going to be hitting the ground running with learning this week. Before vacation we were learning about what happens in different types of weather and worked on number bonds in math. Below is a video to help you understand what a number bond is and how we use it in the classroom.
A peek at our learning this week....
We will have a very busy week this week!
This week our class will be reading stories about how to stay safe in bad weather. Children will also learn about severe weather conditions, such as hurricanes, tornadoes, blizzards, earthquakes, droughts, and floods.
Here are some activities that you can do with your child to help reinforce the skills we will be practicing.
Word Workout
- Vocabulary: safe, prepare Make a list and gather materials for a weather supply kit. Include items such as a first aid kit, canned food, and a battery-operated radio.
- My Words to Know
High-Frequency Words: my, are, have, with, is, little, she, was Have your child think of sentences using the review words. Write the sentences on paper, and then read them together.
Category Words: question words Look for pictures of severe weather in a newspaper, or a magazine, or online. Ask your child questions about each picture.
Phonics: h, e, f, r, b, l, k, ck Play “I Spy,” having your child guess the names of objects that have the letters h, e, f, r, b, l, c, or ck.
In Math, we will be working on number bonds. This is a concept that we use to break numbers apart and put them together.

Our Scholastic book orders are in, I will send them home tomorrow.
Thank you to all who made our Valentine's day celebration a big hit.
We could still use black dry erase markers and clorox wipes if anyone is interested.
Have a great week!
A note from Mrs. Goldthwaite
I am excited for the progress we have made this far. I went over some data this week and I have some great ROCK STARS in my room. We will continue to build on our basic skills in math and literacy.
If you ordered scholastic books. I got an email that they were dropped off at school this week. I will send home Monday.
You did a great job with the February family home work. The valentines boxes were wonderful. I will be sending home a March family project. Hint: It has to do with catching a leprechaun.
Thank you for the family's that are so generous sending in the clorox wipes and tissues. It seems that we never have enough. Our class wish list is for more. Thank you a head of time.
