Clueless V.S. Fancy
A look at Intertextual Use
Clueless the Movie V.S. "Fancy" the music video
A look at the intertextual use of Clueless the movie's plot points in Iggy Azaleas's new music video "Fancy."
Iggy Azalea - Fancy (Explicit) ft. Charli XCX
Clueless - Trailer
In the new music video Fancy by Iggy Azalea is the perfect example of intertextuality in pop culture. The music video basically copies full scenes of the movie, and pairs them with Iggy’s music. One scene includes Iggy Azalea in front of a class room at a podium singing wearing a yellow shit with a yellow plaid skirt and jacket sporting bleach blond hair . This scene is an exact replication, even down to the same outfit, as Cher when she is told to give a speech in front of the class.
There are also other scenes from the music video that correspond exactly to the movie such as the car scene when Dionne is learning how to drive and puts everyone’s life in danger while driving on the highway, the group to “popular”, “high social status” kids sitting at lunch, and also the scene from Clueless when they are all in gym class wearing odd outfits.
