FROM THE TUMUAKI
Tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou katoa.
As December draws upon us so does the season of Advent. Advent leading into Christmas brings along lots of different family traditions that may have been in place for years, some you may not even no where they have originated from as in our house hold, but always happen. This time of the year it is important for us to remember the real reason for the season of Advent and bring alive to our tamariki those stories of faith that have been passed down through scripture, liturgies, masses and through the breaking of bread.
This year across our nation, there will be many families struggling as a result of the year that has been. More than ever we need to focus on coming together and sharing the themes of Advent; Hope, Faith, Joy and Peace. It is a time for us to focus on what is truly important in our lives, and focus on the promise that has been given to us through the birth of Christ.
As we move towards the end of the school year, our tamariki are already involved and practicing for our end of year celebrations, which we hope you will join us in. The first event being this week with our Open Day where some of our students will be sharing their gifts and talents with the community. Please keep an eye out for these and mark them in your calendars now.
Finally, as always, I would like to extend my thanks to all those who continuously give us their support in all that we do here at Reignier Catholic School.
God bless
Teresa Shanks
INTRODUCING ANDREA YEE - NEWLY ELECTED BOT PARENT REPRESENTATIVE
Hi, I’m Andrea Yee and it’s my absolute honour to be a part of the School Board for Reignier Catholic School.
I currently have a daughter in Year 2 and previously our eldest daughter also attended Reignier. It's an amazing school, the staff, teachers and principal are wonderful. The opportunities for the students are fantastic. The school also has a great sense of community about it, which is another reason we chose it for our children’s education.
A little bit of background info on me. I’m a born and breed Hawke’s Bay girl. I have a Bachelors Degree in Fashion Design and I have my own clothing label ‘Silverlily’, which I also exported to Australia after attending NZ fashion week. I have taught tertiary level fashion illustration at EIT and currently have three businesses here in Hawkes Bay, RSVP Bridal Couture, Gas Guzzler Garage mechanical workshop and Silverlily & Co at the Black Box.
I’m excited to be apart of this new school board and look forward to being able to help to continue with the work that has been done by the previous board while also working on new projects going forward. I’m here if you ever want to ask anything or just have a chat. If I don’t have the answer straight away for you, I will find out and get back to you.
With Christmas fast approaching and this school year only having roughly three weeks left, I would like to thank the staff and principal for all they have done for the students this year. Also, a huge thank you to the Friends of Reignier, your tireless work for the school is outstanding. I wish everyone a happy festive season and look forward to returning to school again in 2023.
All the best, take care.
Andrea

YEAR 6 GRADUATION DINNER
The Year 6 Graduation Dinner will be held on Monday 12th December at 6pm at the Taradale RSA. The Friends of Reignier will be covering the cost of the meal and a drink for our Year 6 students. Each student is welcome to bring up to 2 adults to help celebrate this wonderful occasion. The cost of the buffet is $25 and this will be payable on the night. Please RSVP for your family by emailing rjackson@reignier.school.nz by Monday 5th December. The Year 6 trophies will be presented as part of this evening.
In addition to this we request photos of your child as a baby, a toddler and their first day of school for a powerpoint Mrs Ward puts together for us. Please email these either direct to Mrs Ward kward@reignier.school.nz or to Mrs Jackson.
We look forward to celebrating with you.
CAMP TUTIRA 2023
Current Year 4 and 5 students were given a notice two weeks ago about Camp Tutira 2023. We have since been advised from the curator of Guthrie Smith that they are putting their costs up. This means that we will recalculate camp costs and let you know if this means a change to the current indicated cost. Parent helpers are required. If you are interested please email Mrs Jackson rjackson@reignier.school.nz. Likewise if you have any further queries.
FUTSAL - TERM 1, 2023
We have been notified by Central Football that ALL Futsal in Term 1 will be played on a FRIDAY. The cost per team has increased. If we have the minimum number of players in the team (5) it will be approx $83 per student. This cost will be reduced if we have 7 or 8 players per team. Parents of Year 3 and 4 children in 2023, cricket is also played on a Friday afternoon. Registrations are now open for teams for Term 1. Please email Mrs Jackson - rjackson@reignier.school.nz to indicate if you would like your child to play Futsal in Term 1. There are competitions for Year 1 and 2; Year 3 and 4; and Year 5 and 6. Games will be played on Friday afternoons at the PGA.
SWIMMING POOL
The Board are currently working to fix our pump/filter issue that is a direct result of damage done in the summer holidays. This means the pool will be delayed in opening, but they're working to resolve this as soon as possible.
UNIFORM
The Warehouse Napier is now stocking all uniform items including items previously sold at school - Sweatshirt, Sunhat, PE Shirt and PE Shorts. Due to a change in supplier, the sweatshirt is a slightly different blue to what we currently have, however, there will be a phase out period of two years before the expectation is everyone is wearing the new sweatshirt. With that in mind, we currently have a small amount of stock in limited sizes left at school and we will be reducing the price of these items by 30%. The following items will be sold for: Sunhat - $9.10, PE Shirt - $23.10, PE Shorts - $18.90 and Sweatshirt - $35.00
VISITORS - SIGNING IN & OUT
If you enter the school grounds during the day, please enter via the school office, sign in and speak to Mrs Gouder who will direct you. Please ensure on exiting the grounds, you sign out. This is a Health and Safety requirement. Thank you for your support.
ENROLMENTS FOR 2023, 2024 & BEYOND & STUDENTS LEAVING
If you have a child who will be turning 5 in 2023 or in 2024 and beyond, it is not too early to get them enrolled or indicate that you are intending to enrol your child at Reignier Catholic School.
Please call into the school office to get a preference form, make an appointment with Fr Barry to have this signed and drop back to school. Without this form, we cannot accept your child's enrolment.
Equally, if you are leaving Reignier at the end of the year (other than our Year 6's) to another school in the area or out of town, please let Mrs Shanks know, as this will impact our class sizes and staffing levels for 2023 and beyond.
This enables the school management team to forecast staffing for next year and the year after.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Shanks on 844 2144.
SCHOOL ATTENDANCE
If your child is absent, please let the school know by either phoning the office or using the app. Please DO NOT Seesaw message your child's teacher as teachers are busy prepping for the school day and often don't see their messages till much later in the day and this may result in you receiving a phone call checking in.
