Discovery and Uses

This element was used in ancient Egypt, presumably the first usable pieces came from iron meteorites. It is a very common material in construction and automobile industries. Iron is easy to mold once it has been heated and is fairly sturdy making it ideal for supports in buildings. It is also a rather light metal compared to some others (lead in ex.)

Iron is located in group 8, period 4. atomic number is 26, and atomic symbol is Fe. Atomic mass is 55.845

It's periodic symbol as seen on the table.
