A Family Newsletter: Week of January 21st
Crazy Weather week!
Dear Parents:
To keep you updated, MISD students will not be required to make-up Tuesday, January 16. Texas requires a minimum amount of minutes students must be in school each school year. MISD added days to its school calendar to provide flexibility in case of prolonged bad weather requiring school closures. If our community experiences additional bad weather that requires school closures, we may need to use our bad weather make-up days as outlined in our school calendar.
Additionally, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your understanding as to why MISD made the decision to close schools today. With continuous forecasts predicting worsening weather and road conditions, we felt it was better to err on the side of caution to ensure all of our 8,800+ students and 1,000+ staff could travel safely to and from school across our district’s 112-square miles.
If you have any questions, please contact the communications team at info@misd.gs.
Alan November coming to Parent U
Alan November, a leading national expert on learning and parenting in a digital world is coming to Midlothian ISD. There are two opportunities on February 8 to hear him present. The first opportunity is from 11:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the MISD Administration Building and the second opportunity is from 6-8 p.m. at Heritage High School in the Cafeteria. At either session, please feel free to brown bag your lunch or dinner and bring a friend. For more details, please visit our website our district’s website at MISD.gs. I look forward to seeing you there!

A Note from Nurse Martin
Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS) is reporting that influenza activity has been sharply increasing nationally and locally.
If you haven’t done it already, consider protecting your family with flu vaccinations.
Please remind your children to cover their cough with a tissue or cough into their sleeve.
Washing your hands and keeping your hands away from your face are the best way to prevent spreading the flu.
Avoid close contact with people who are coughing or appear ill.
Please don't send students to school if they are sick. Students may not come to school with a temperature of 100.0 or higher and they must be 24 hours fever free without medication prior to returning to school.
Implementing these precautions are the best way to prevent spreading the flu.
