The Fowler Weekly
September 25-29, 2023
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to invite you to our Back to School event this Tuesday, September 26th. Parking is limited on campus, so please consider extra walk time if you need to park on one of the local side streets.
We will host a short overview of the evening in our commons at 6:00 PM with a “first period” start time of 6:28 PM. Parents will get to follow their student’s schedule for all 7 core and elective periods. Class periods for this event are periods 1-7.
Our goal is to provide parents and guardians a taste of what a school day may look like by meeting teachers and finding each classroom in the 5-minute passing time window.
We do have very inconsistent cell service in the building, so please take a picture of your child’s schedule prior to arriving or screen shot their schedule of classes via ParentVue so you can easily identify which period and classroom you will need to travel to in the 7-class sequence.
We hope to see you here on Tuesday!
Sincerely,
Andy
HAPPENINGS
Affinity Groups begin this Week! Fowler offers several affinity group opportunities. Affinity groups make space for students who share an identity to gather and talk in a safe space about experiences related to that identity and move towards actions to create more equitable experiences at school. Students who are interested in joining an affinity group need to turn in their completed forms to the Main Office.
Affinity Groups meet immediately after school, students must be in the space by 3:15pm. Students may ride the ASA buses. Please see the specific details below in this publication. Here are the groups offered along with the days they meet:
Life Gets Better Together (LGBT) meets on Tuesdays
REAP meets on Tuesdays & Wednesdays
MEChA meets on Wednesdays
Pacific Island Affinity (PIA) meets on Wednesdays
Black Student Union (BSU) meets on Thursdays
Middle Eastern/North African/South Asian (MENASA) has not determined a day to meet. If your student is interested in this group, we encourage them to see Mr. Gay in room 29.

We are excited to see you at our Back to School Night event this Tuesday, September 26th. Parking is limited on campus, so please consider extra walk time if you need to park on one of the local side streets. Please also be considerate of our neighbors and their property access.
We will host a short overview of the evening in the commons at 6:00 PM. Parents will get to follow their student’s schedule for all 7 class periods.
Our goal is to provide parents/guardians a glimpse of what a school day may look like for their child by meeting teachers and finding each classroom in the 5-minute passing time window.
We do have very inconsistent cell service in the school building, so please take a picture of your child’s schedule prior to arriving or screen shot their schedule of classes via ParentVue so you can easily identify which period and classroom you will need to travel to throughout the night.
We hope to see you here on Tuesday!
ASA has begun. It is never too late to sign up for ASA. We still have lots of room in most activities. Unfortunately, Art Club, Improv Theater and Basketball are full and no longer accepting participants. Encourage your student to get involved! Just send this form with your student to the Main Office, either when they get to school or during their lunch. Please contact Mrs. Roshak with any questions at eroshak@ttsd.k12.or.us or 503-431-5062.
There is an ASA Cross Country meet this Tuesday, September 26, at Lakeridge Middle School. Students will be released at 3:00pm. The meet starts at 4:45pm. The bus should return to the school at about 6:00pm. Students who ride the bus back to Fowler WILL need a ride home when it arrives. There will not be busing to homes.
ASA buses: There are three buses. Students locate the right bus to ride by finding their “normal” bus route located under each route:
It is HIGHLY ENCOURAGED that your student knows their address.
Routes 1, 3, 4, 6, 8 will ride Bus 1. The first bus in line as they come out of the building.
Routes 10, 13, 20, 22, 23, 27 will ride Bus 2. The second bus in line as they come out of the building.
Routes 3, 5, 8 will ride Bus 3. The third bus in line as they come out of the building.
Routes 3 and 5 are listed in two places. Please help your student determine which bus makes more sense for them to ride. TL = Turn Left; TR = Turn Right.
These buses DO NOT stop at the normal routes. They will stop at the turn closest to student’s homes that are on their bus any particular day. Please help your student determine which turn that is. It is MOST helpful if they can tell the bus driver when they get on the bus.
Students must have a pink bus slip to board the bus at the end of ASAs and Affinity Groups. They will receive this from their ASA teacher or Affinity group leader when the activity is over.

HELPFUL TIDBITS
The District Office has created a Transportation Feedback Form to allow parents to share their concerns about a bus. This helps the transportation department monitor and document concerns and complaints regarding buses and their routes. You can locate this form either on the Fowler Middle School website on the front page under Fast Links. (bottom right of page) In addition, it will remain in our Helpful Links at the bottom of this publication.

The next PSO Meeting is Wednesday, October 4, at 6:00pm. The PSO meets at Fowler in the Library and every single person is invited to come. The more hands the merrier. As Mr. Van Fleet stated above, there are several positions that still need to be filled - come see if there is one that interests you.
