Graduate Student Newsletter

September 2023

Welcome! / Welcome Back!

We hope you are energized to start this new academic year. This newsletter is designed to connect you with services, programs, and with opportunities to meet and network with other graduate students. Even if you studied here as an undergrad, WELCOME to graduate school!

We as graduate students are an important part of the Loyola community. Read on for groups looking for graduate representatives, resources you may need, and a hint at our October event!

Your Graduate Student Organization

You are already a member of the GSO, or Graduate Student Organization. We work to support the needs and interests of all graduate students by:

  • promoting campus resources
  • increasing publicity of graduate student events and services
  • providing concise information
  • planning occasional events

This newsletter, our Facebook page, our events page, our Instagram page and gso@loyola.edu are some ways we currently connect!

A limited supply of planners / handbooks are available in the Student Resource Center at the Timonium Graduate Center (Room 06), and in the Grad Work Room (Room 031) in the Fernandez Center on the Evergreen Campus. If they are out, click for the digital version or let us know!

Leadership Opportunities

Graduate students are notorious for juggling multiples responsibilities and roles! Consider these ways to be more involved in the Loyola community:

  • Graduate Student Organization Programming Board
Join us in brainstorming and planning graduate student events of interest to you. Our board members also attend events for free!

  • Graduate Student Representative, Academic Senate
Learn and be a part of decisions and discussions among Loyola faculty and administrators. Be a liaison between the GSO and the academic community.

For more information on these opportunities, contact Mark Lee at mslee@loyola.edu.

Loyola Resources

Each month, we will highlight university resources that may be of particular interest for us as graduate students.

This month, we introduce you to the redesigned Graduate student website at www.loyola.edu/gradstudents. You will find all sorts of administrative, financial, academic, and personal resources, some of which we will be highlighting throughout this academic year.

Let's start with a video welcome from our university president, Terrence M. Sawyer, J.D.:

There are many ways to get involved with the Loyola community. Our friends at the Counseling Center this month share the opportunity to be part of a Men's Group:

Big picture

Did you Know?

There are lockers available for graduate student use on the Evergreen Campus, in the Grad Work Room in the Fernandez Center. With no fees required, these can be very handy for the encumbered!

Keep an Eye Out for the October Newsletter!

The GSO sends out newsletters once a month connecting graduate students to opportunities, resources, and other graduate students!

Next month, we're planning on hosting an in-person event that may have something to do with ...pumpkins!
