Week Of March 25th
Highlights from last week....
In ELA, we finished our unit on animals and where they live. Your children did great on the end of the unit assessment.
In Math, we worked on number bonds and number sentences. Our focus was to really "read" the number sentences to determine whether to add or subtract the numbers in the sentence. This was a VERY tricky concept, so we are going to continue to practice this skill this week.
What a great week of learning!
A peek at our learning this week....
This week our class will be reading stories about the transportation used to take people from place to place. Children will learn about how families in the past traveled and how these vehicles compare with what is used today.
Here are some activities that you can do with your child to help reinforce the skills we will be practicing.
Word Workout
- Vocabulary: transportation, vehicle Discuss the different kinds of transportation you take from place to place. Then invite your child to draw pictures of each type of transportation.
- My Words to Know
High-Frequency Words: here, me Write the words here and me and ask your child to write each word. Think of sentences that use each word, then read the sentences together.
Category Words: vehicles Play “Guess the Vehicle.” Give rhyming clues about different kinds of vehicles. Encourage your child to guess the vehicle, and then act out how it is used.
Phonics: j, qu Have your child guess words that begin with the letter j. Give a clue and act out each word. When your child guesses the word, write the word on a chart. Repeat for qu.
In Math, we will be working on number bonds and number sentences up to 10. We will be focusing on subtracting or "breaking numbers apart" this week. We will focus on number stories and work on acting them out, writing the sentence and creating a number bond to match the sentence. We will also focus on reading number sentences to determine if we should add or subtract the numbers in the sentence.
We are going to finish up reading our books on Eric Carle. The children love making connections with his books.

A note from Mrs. Maillet
A note from Mrs. Webb
We had quite a mess in our room last Monday. Apparently the leprechaun visited room B136 and had a great time! He spilled our crayons and pencils, dumped our books, wrote on our morning message, and left green footprints all around the room! He was much too fast for our amazing traps! He managed to escape, but I think just barely!
We had a visit from Mount Grace Conservatory Friday and got to see the blanding’s turtles that visited us in January. Beast has grown too big for our scale and Beauty also grew a lot! They will be back to visit us one more time in May before they are released into the wild.
Wednesday is Spring Picture Day!!! Order forms were sent home last week.
Next Wednesday (April 3rd) there is a ½ day of school. Dismissal is at 12:00.
Scholastic Book Orders are due on Friday, April 5th.
I am going to send home snow pants and boots this week. I am hopeful that we have seen the last of winter!
I hope you have a great week!
A note from Mrs. Marcoux
We had a visit on Friday from representatives of the Mount Grace Conservatory. They brought back the blanding's turtles that we measured and weighed in January. We were so surprised to see how much they had grown!
Just a reminder that Spring pictures are on Wednesday if your child is having them taken.
Enjoy your week.
A note from Mrs. Goldthwaite
It was great seeing some of you at PTO's toy BINGO!
Please keep reading each night. That is such a great help. I will be sending home those sight word cards for our next few units. If you need any books to have at home to read. I will loan them to you. Please ask. They will be on your child's level.
Spring pictures are this week.
Our class wish list is more clorox wipes, tissues and gallon size and quart size ziplock bags.
Have a great week!
