Elf Day at Alamo
Our elementary schools are having a fun time with theme weeks and dress-up days leading up to the holidays. Alamo teachers took Elf Day to a whole new level! The kids had a fun day! Elementary Literacy Coach, Gina Watson, read the kids a book and led them through different literacy activities.
'Tis the Giving Season
All of our schools are busy with different events to help those less fortunate this holiday season.
Toys for Tots
Dix Street Elementary is collecting for Toys for Tots once again this year! The box is in the office for any donations.
Stuff the Stockings
Washington Street Elementary held its annual Stuff the Stockings event this week collecting personal hygiene items for Christian Neighbors.
Giving Tree
There are giving trees at each elementary school this year. Tags on the trees will provide gifts and other needs for their own school families.
NHS Hosting Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser
Bring any donation and enjoy a great pancake breakfast to help out the National Honor Society's annual toy drive. NHS collects money to then shop for families who benefit from the Otsego Christmas Basket Project. There are usually more than 100 families, so about 200 kids.
Pancake Breakfast
- Saturday, December 14th
- 8:00am - 11:00am
- OHS Cafeteria
You can also enjoy a craft fair! (If you have crafts you'd like to sell at the event, contact Lori Laughlin at llaughlin@otsegops.org.)
OMS Food Drive Exceeds Goal
With a goal of 8,000 food items in two weeks, OMS had a tough task, but kids came through and so did Meijer! The OMS Student Council collected both cans and money; by Tuesday, December 3rd, they collected $1240 which they took to Meijer for their Simply Give double match day and turned it into more than $3700! In the end, with money and donations, they collected more than 9,000 items. The kids sorted and packed up the food and stocked the shelves at Christian Neighbors. It's always a great experience for the kids to see exactly how their drive benefits the community.
Hat & Mitten Drive
Be Nice is collecting hats and mittens to hand out to the community and to students in need. This week, someone dropped off six bags full of knit hats and mittens! The kids will be collecting and handing them out Saturday at Edward Jones in Otsego during the Hometown Christmas festivities.
Be Nice
As Be Nice prepares for a presentation Monday, we gathered staff and students for a picture. The kids have mentioned how they love to see the staff involved with Be Nice and check out the participation! Be Nice is in its 4th year at OMS. It started with a small group of kids and now has 75!
Alternative Energy Project
Third graders across the district took on a project to research, engineer and test their own wind devices. These Dix Street students showed off their creations this week!
Cookie Capers Delivers
The elementary schools participated in their annual Cookie Capers event where families bake up homemade cookies to be assembled into platters for Wings of Hope Hospice. The schools put together a record 294 plates of cookies! Wings of Hope Hospice delivers them to families they serve to brighten their day during a difficult time.
May 2020 Bond Community Conversation
Supt. Haase held the final Community Conversation to get feedback from the community on the May 2020 Bond Proposal. There was a good turnout at Alamo, which was the 4th community meeting on this topic. After a short presentation, we gathered feedback on the current proposal, what else they'd like to see, their ideas for additional space for the WSE pool area and any questions they still have. Look for more information on the proposal in the OPS Connection in the link below.

Back to Elementary for the 8th Grade Band
The 8th grade band took the stage at each elementary school today to perform a short concert. It''s a fun event for everyone involved and gets the elementary students thinking about joining band in the future. They played TV show tunes, some rock music and Christmas classics!
Story Time with Mr. Bushouse
Second graders enjoyed quite the treat on Grinch Day! They got to hear from Dan Bushouse! He's the best at reading How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
Decorated Doors
The high school hallways are full of holiday spirit thanks to the hard work of Mrs. Horton's students! They even traveled to Central Office to brighten up my door and Mr. Haase's! They were very creative in their decorations and they look great! They decorated doors for a $5 donation to their class to help fund trips, staff lunches and other activities for students.
Stars Shine in Christmas Concert
Our 4th & 5th grade Stars group put on a wonderful performance Tuesday night in the "Holly Jolly Jukebox". There are about 70 students in Stars in this year. Their second concert is in February.
OMS Choir Concert
The middle school choir took the stage Wednesday night in their holiday concert. There were great group and solo numbers, plus a special collaborative performance from the HS Chamber Singers. Great job to all!
O-Town News is Back!
Each new trimester brings a new O Town News crew at OHS! There are 10 students putting together a weekly newscast of announcements, features, sports, weather and trivia. You can see today's newscast online here! (In the photo, students record a special feature coming up soon with the green screen!)
